Despite its difficulty, the powerful reward at the end makes the journey worthwhile.

How to Start Unearthing Mehrunes Razor Quest in Oblivion Remastered

To embark on the quest to recover Mehrunes Razor, players should first make their way to the Sundercliff Watch, situated east of Bravil within Oblivion Remastered. Upon entering the caverns, you’ll find yourself facing multiple Drothmeri Soldiers. Defeat these soldiers and continue your journey until you reach a locked door. At this point, a voice echoes from beyond the door: “A voice calls out from beyond the door, ‘Who gathers stormclouds over Nirn?’

To find the password for the door, look inside the small bag situated to the right of the door and read the contents of the tiny diary. Once you say the password “Chimer”, the game’s players can proceed deeper into the caves for more exploration.

Finding Drothan’s Journal in his Cabin

After the gate is unlocked, multiple adversaries may surprise you. While players can engage them in combat, it’s usually wiser to swiftly move past them towards the next section. Continue your journey through the caves until you notice a gap in the ground. Descend the stairs located there and proceed forward until you reach the entrance of Sundercliff Village.

In this scenario, you’ll encounter several foes huddled around a fire. You have two options: stealthily bypass them or make a dash for the other side and join the Sundercliff Communion. Once there, traverse the rope bridge and enter the house on your right to uncover Drothan’s Journal, which can be found resting on a table. This journal narrates Drothan’s journey into a location called Varsa Balim. To advance further, players must locate Bezoars that will unlock the pathway to this mysterious destination.

Find Two Bezoars to Unseal the Barrier to Varsa Balim

Upon finishing the journal, step outside your home, then proceed to enter the house directly to your right, which belongs to the Drothmeri Commander. You’ll need to engage in combat and conquer him, following which you can acquire his sword during the fight. Make your way into his private quarters and find the first Bezoar on the table, situated next to the jewel box.

Next, proceed to the location indicated by the second quest marker, which will lead you into Sundercliff Forge. Continue through the tight passages until you reach an expansive area with a tent on your left side.

Go inside the Forgemaster’s tent and find the second Bezoar resting on the table. Exit the forge promptly and navigate back to Sundercliff Commune.

In Sundercliff Commune, be cautious as you shimmy down from the overhanging platform. You’ll notice a gateway positioned to the left of the lodge.

As I reach the culmination of this path, it falls upon me to position both Bezoars atop each pedestal, a task that will unlock the entrance to Varsa Balim, granting me access within.

Exploring Varsa Balim and Getting Mehrunes Razor

In the remastered version of Oblivion, players will navigate a tight corridor leading them to the far-off, ancient city of Varsa Balim – the Ayelid City. Along the journey, they’ll encounter adversaries, but it’s crucial to preserve your supplies for the upcoming climactic battle.

Hurry over to the large altar at the far end of the room, then leap off the right-side ledge to gain access to the doorway leading to Cava Beldameld. Navigate the winding, maze-like ruins until you return to Varsa Balim. Once there, face the opposite direction and dash to the back of the room before moving through the ruins again to reach the doorway that leads to Cava Marspanga.

Leaving the hallways behind, you should proceed by walking cautiously across the pillars bridging the platform towards the central area marked with radiant stones. Then, follow the spiral staircase, which will lead you into the mysterious realm known as Nefarivigum. Inside, your first challenge will be a fight against Frathen Drothan.

After overcoming the malevolent wizard, approach the soldier statue on your right side to obtain his Heart of Battle. Open your inventory and use this heart to initiate the climactic battle against Msirac Faythung, the final boss. Once Msirac is vanquished, you’ll be granted access to Mehrunes Razor within Oblivion Remastered, allowing you to depart from Ayelid City.
