In the fourth installment of Poppy Playtime, players are taken on an emotional journey that unveils more secrets about the world than previously known. This chapter places a strong emphasis on intricate puzzles and immersive storytelling, keeping players captivated throughout. There’s a wealth of content to explore, and as always, the game’s quality remains top-notch.
Besides the storyline, one method by which players discover more about the game’s universe is through collectibles such as notes and tapes. These tapes, specifically, offer rich insights for exploring lore because they contain detailed narratives from various characters, often revealing conversations between multiple individuals. These accounts help build the backstory and context surrounding Playtime Co. In Poppy Playtime Chapter 4, there are 17 tapes that players can uncover, some of which may be difficult to find during an initial playthrough.
Flare Hand Safety Video
Know Your Hand!
- Location: Checkpoint 1A
- Objective: Investigate the Control Room
- Autosave File: Lift Control Room (1)
- Tape Color: Purple
The very first videotape is right ahead for players to discover, eliminating the necessity of detouring for a side mission. Upon being tasked with Investigating the Control Room, players then undergo a brief tutorial guiding them towards Checkpoint 1A.
In the room to the left of the large yellow doors that continue ahead, they’ll discover a purple roll of tape and a device that resembles a player. This player will provide them with a brief instructional guide on utilizing the Flare Hand, an object capable of frightening small dolls, burning ropes, and detonating combustible substances.
Break Time
Best Time Of The Day…
- Location: Train station outside Prison Cell Blocks
- Objective: Find Another Way Into the Prison
- Autosave File: Toy Graveyard (3)
- Tape Color: Blue
As players advance a bit more and eventually arrive at the train station where certain carriages are obstructed, they’ll gain access to the second tape within Poppy Playtime Chapter 4. Utilize the crates to climb up and reach the suspended train compartment.
In that area, located at the left corner behind a partition, find the key resting with the puppet, then utilize it to unlock the control room. Inside, you’ll notice a roll of blue tape situated on a shelf to your left, and another individual (possibly an operator) across the room.
Warden Office 8/8/1995
The Hour Of Joy Begins
- Location: Warden’s Office (Locked Room)
- Objective: Escape The Prison
- Autosave File: Prison Cell Blocks (3)
- Tape Color: Yellow
After grabbing the red key in Chapter 4, players will exit the initial cell block region and gain access to a spacious room featuring several control panels leading to the next zone. Prior to activating these controls, it’s wise for players to first investigate the hallway hidden behind those control panels.
To enter the Warden’s Office, locate the police medallion on the second door to your left and insert it into the slot above the locked door. Once inside, you’ll find a yellow tape labeled “Warden Office 8/8/1995.” Additionally, the tape player is situated in that very room.
The Doctor
The Man Behind The Experiments
- Location: Outside the Vents
- Objective: Avoid Detection From Yarnaby
- Autosave File: Containment Zone (6)
- Tape Color: Black
As soon as players first meet Yarnaby and descend through the vents to access what appears to be a storage room, they’ll find a strip of black tape directly in front of their landing spot, neatly placed on a lower shelf.
To listen to the cassette, you’ll find it on the opposite side of the room. Leaving Yarnaby there will cause him to depart, giving you the opportunity to play the tape. This tape offers insights into the main antagonist of the fourth chapter, known as The Doctor.
Stella Greyber Project Audit
Stella Makes Her Decision
- Location: Storage Room
- Objective: Avoid Detection From Yarnaby
- Autosave File: Containment Zone (8)
- Tape Color: Green
Following their escape from Yarnaby, the character navigates another series of ducts which open into a storage space filled with numerous filing cabinets arranged in long rows. This area contains a total of three different rooms.
If the player moves into the central room, they’ll spot a roll of green tape tucked away on the lower shelf of the third cabinet to their right, right beside a wall. It’s worth noting that the tape isn’t in the same cabinet as the one they’re currently standing in; it’s hidden somewhere else within the same vicinity.
’93 Theater Incident
A Team of Specialists Clean Up A Mess
- Location: Interrogation Rooms
- Objective: Follow Doey
- Autosave File: Prison Utility Zone (1)
- Tape Color: Yellow
As soon as the player begins to trail Doey the Doughman, they’ll come across a hallway lined with interrogation rooms on both sides. Push past the first filing cabinet, and players will encounter three doors. Open the central door to reveal a strip of yellow tape. However, the destination marked by this tape lies a bit further down the path for the players to discover.
Continue exploring the remaining part of the area to get to the final hallway in the interview room. Once you’re there, enter the first room on your right-hand side. Look for a block in the left corner of that room; moving it will expose a hidden opening that leads into the next room. You’ll find the tape player in that spot.
Ollie
Ollie Does His Best to Help
- Location: Outside Safe Haven
- Objective: Get to Safe Haven
- Autosave File: Safe Haven (1)
- Tape Color: Brown
Following completion of the Follow Doey task, players will encounter a fresh objective: reaching Safe Haven. After resolving a minor riddle that involves some body bags, a tumbled cabinet, and a chain, they may advance to the subsequent location. There, Kissy and Poppy rescue the player from detection by the Prototype, urging them to follow swiftly.
Instead of following them, glance over your shoulder to spot a substantial bookshelf nearby. A strip of brown tape is noticeable on its lowest step. Upon retrieving it, you can utilize it at several stages throughout the game as its character is found in the planetary room within the Infirmary area of Safe Haven. This room is positioned on the left side of the infirmary if players move towards the rear hole.
Construction Plans: The Shelf
Playtime Makes Big Plans
- Location: Infirmary in Safe Haven
- Objective: —
- Autosave File: —
- Tape Color: Orange
Within Safe Haven’s infirmary, you’ll discover another concealed tape tucked under a bed towards the room’s backside. The tape is situated to the left, hidden beneath the bed, and the character associated with this tape can be found a short distance away on the opposite side, slightly behind it.
This recording captures a discussion between a construction contractor and management, where he voices his apprehensions about a project he’s been assigned – specifically, building a prison cell block. He seeks confirmation that the project serves a noble cause, but instead, he is merely reminded of the terms in his contract and an indirect warning.
1322 Report: Kevin
A Scientist Voices His Concerns
- Location: Water Waste Plant
- Objective: —
- Autosave File: —
- Tape Color: Dark Green
Multiple visits to the Water Treatment Facility are possible, since it’s situated just beyond Safe Haven and can be accessed via the large opening at the infirmary’s end. Inside, there’s a cassette tape about an individual named Kevin. This item is positioned on the lower shelf of a storage cabinet, towards the left side of the room (post-bridge crossing).
As a dedicated fan, I find myself seated in the very same room, just steps away from that striking metal bridge. Intriguingly, this recording delves deep into the apprehensions of a diligent scientist questioning whether Kevin, with his unique persona, might not be the ideal subject for their study.
Security Feed 02.09.01
Two Toys Return After Being Ambushed
- Location: Room After Exiting Tube Transporter
- Objective: Run
- Autosave File: No Man’s Land (7)
- Tape Color: Maroon
After players skillfully escape Yarnaby and navigate through the No Man’s Land part of the game, they’ll encounter a room equipped with a transport tube.
Once you’ve utilized it to move into the adjoining room, you’ll come across a tape that appears to have been carelessly tossed amongst a stack of cardboard boxes, near where you initially appeared. You’ll discover the cassette player for this tape in the very same room, nestled in a corner.
Experiment #1354
The Doctor Awakens
- Location: Secondary Laboratories
- Objective: Make your way to The Doctor
- Autosave File: Doctor’s Domain (5)

However, within this maze, there are three surgical rooms untouched by the gas. Upon entering through the central room (where you’ll first arrive), you’ll find a life-saving mask necessary for survival in the labyrinth.
If the player chooses the left path, they’ll find themselves in a room where they’ll discover a cassette labeled “Experiment #1354”. This cassette is positioned atop an operating table, supported by a toy. To listen to the cassette, the player must retrace their steps to the central room and then proceed along the right path, eventually ending up in the operation theater where they can access it.
Time
Doctor Finds Himself Working With An Unexpected Ally
- Location: Room Behind the Doctor’s Brain
- Objective: Confront The Doctor/Get the Omni-Hand Upgrade
- Autosave File: Doctor’s Headquarters (4)
- Tape Color: Gray
After overcoming The Doctor, players will find themselves close to the final stages of the game. Instead of advancing towards the omni-hand, the player should ascend using the staircase hidden behind where The Doctor stands. Upstairs, they’ll discover a locked room that requires a unique key card for unlocking.
In my last adventure, I stumbled upon a crucial key card hidden near those colossal television monsters in the previous area. To retrieve it, I recommend heading back to the Main Control Room. Once there, turn right at the first opportunity and stick to the path marked by the wire on the floor. Instead of venturing left towards The Doctor’s brain, continue a bit further. You’ll soon spot two television monsters encircling a solitary key card. Grab it, then return to the room behind where The Doctor’s brain resides. This area will provide you with a tape and its player, as well as an intriguing note.
Management: Rich

- Objective: Return to Safe Haven
- Autosave File: Safe Haven (2)
- Tape Color: Purple
Upon coming back victorious against The Doctor, the players will arrive at a chamber just prior to Safe Haven, which houses a minor puzzle. In this puzzle, they must utilize their electric hand, or purple hand, to leap over an enclosed space.
On one of the lower shelves in those cabinets, you’ll come across a roll of violet tape. After finding it, you can listen to the tape in the same room, near the hallway that leads to Safe Haven.
1322 Report: Jack
Parents Are Reunited With Their Son
- Location: Cave System Near Foundation
- Objective: Gather and plant (4) explosives
- Autosave File: Foundation (2)
- Tape Color: Cyan
As I vanquish The Doctor, Poppy calls upon me, asking me to embark on a mission. This task involves me planting explosives deep within the foundation. Throughout this adventure, I’ll encounter a room where the explosives must be found and carefully planted. In that space, I’ll come across a cart adorned with a violet paw print. I should seize it and pull it as far as possible into the caverns. Once done, I’ll need to employ my electric hand to access an elevated area above the tunnel, which will guide me to a sturdy metal platform.
Advance, and you’ll come across a barrel with a strip of cyan-colored tape on top. To find the corresponding player for this location, move to the left side of the platform and use one of your hands to swing into a room featuring a damaged staircase.
Untitled Tape
Poppy Gets More Than She Bargained For
- Location: First Cave Section During Doey Boss Fight
- Objective: Run
- Autosave File: Doey Boss Pit (1)
- Tape Color: Red
Obtaining The Untitled Tape is limited to a narrow window of time, meaning you’ll likely need to restart from a save point multiple times to grasp its timing properly. As Doey becomes aggressive and pursues you, you’ll find yourself in a cave area where evading him is essential. To progress, follow the path ahead leading to an electrified pool that can be traversed by swinging over it.
Across the ocean, advance until you come across some items in a cave-like area with a glowing trinket inside. Grab it quickly before you get too close, as the cave will crumble, sealing away the cassette tape. You can listen to this cassette in the room that follows after defeating Doey.
A Reminder
Doey Has A Moment To Think
- Location: Shelf Ventilation Block B
- Objective: Search for Survivors
- Autosave File: The Labs Entrance (1)
- Tape Color: Black
Following the battle against the boss Doey, players should make their way back to Safe Sanctuary. En route, they’ll encounter a space containing stacks of relocatable crates, which the player must shift in order to advance.
In this particular space, you’ll discover a cassette recording left by Doey, along with a functioning cassette player, neatly arranged on a table near the boxes. The cassette contains a personal narrative from Doey, detailing his time as the caretaker of the group and shedding light on why he chooses to remain here.
Top Secret
Something’s Off…
- Location: Outside the Lab Entrance
- Objective: ???
- Autosave File: The Labs Entrance (2)
- Tape Color: Silver
After the major disclosure, when the player returns to Safe Haven seeking any remaining survivors and manages to survive the ensuing turmoil, they will be led deeper underground than they’ve ventured before. Following the designated route will eventually take them to an enigmatic subterranean garden-like area, which culminates in a solitary room up ahead.
Step into the room, and discover that you’re isolated, the only companions being a lone cassette and a tape player. Insert the cassette into the player to kick off the concluding act of “Poppy Playtime Chapter 4“, wrapping up your adventure.
