- Only Vegeta has unlocked Ultra Ego, as it aligns with his personality, while Goku and Gohan are unlikely candidates.
- Dragon Ball Super Chapter 205 does not have a set release date yet, but fans hope for updates in the upcoming V-JUMP edition.
Following the debut of Ultra Instinct in Dragon Ball Super, a new transformation emerged – Ultra Ego, which can be thought of as “Vegeta’s equivalent to Ultra Instinct”. Despite their differences in functioning, they are both divine transformations and represent the most potent states that Goku and Vegeta have managed to attain.
Yet, the series Dragon Ball Super has not fully demonstrated all the capabilities of Ultra Ego as a transformation. This form is tough to manage completely, since it necessitates relinquishing some self-control – a trait that seems fitting for Vegeta. As such, what potential obstacles might there be in mastering Ultra Ego?
What Is Ultra Ego In Dragon Ball?
There are two things called “Ultra Ego” in Dragon Ball. One is an advanced ability and the other one is a divine transformation achieved by Vegeta in the Granolah arc of Dragon Ball Super. They are related, as the Ultra Ego form combines the technique with the power of destruction, but the Gods of Destruction can also use it. We will refer to the transformation in this article.
When Vegeta assumes his Ultra Ego form, he resembles a Super Saiyan 3 (a state Vegeta hasn’t exhibited in ‘Super’ and was thought to have never manifested in this timeline before ‘Dragon Ball Daima’ introduced it). However, unlike Super Saiyan 3, his hair doesn’t grow as long, and it turns purple instead of blonde. This is the most powerful form Vegeta has achieved thus far.
Has Vegeta Mastered Ultra Ego?

Vegeta hasn’t mastered Ultra Ego as of now, but numerous fans anticipate that he will eventually accomplish this, similar to how Goku has refined Ultra Instinct – if The Black Frieza Saga ever unfolds, it would be an ideal moment to introduce the peak formulation of this ability.
The initial hurdle in grasping this technique is its instability compared to other forms, such as Ultra Instinct or Beast (though Beast isn’t divine, it’s still powerfully potent), which might make some fans question the feasibility of mastering the elusive Ultra Ego. The concept of self-control being necessary to access a form that revolves around abandoning oneself to the desire for combat seems paradoxical, leading one to ponder if Ultra Ego mastery could result in becoming a “battle berserker.” However, maybe the ultimate expression of Ultra Ego would be less about losing control and more like that.
In contrast to Ultra Instinct that emphasizes self-restraint, Ultra Ego represents unrestrained indulgence, a trait fitting for Vegeta. However, this power dynamic presents a conundrum as the user’s strength amplifies with each sustained injury – an aspect that may prove either advantageous or detrimental based on its application. Enhanced power through endured damage can empower the user to overturn battlefield fortunes; yet, it also poses a risk of consuming the user entirely in their insatiable thirst for combat.
A significant hurdle in this transformation process is to avoid letting them become overly eager for combat, as this could lead them to act impulsively and suffer damage that might result in the transformation becoming detrimental, ultimately leaving the user exhausted.
Who Can Use Ultra Ego In The Story?
So far, only Vegeta has managed to activate the Ultra Ego form, and it seems unlikely that this will change in the future. This transformation appears to align perfectly with Vegeta’s character, much like how Ultra Instinct suits Goku better.
Using Ultra Instinct drains a tremendous amount of energy and can potentially be fatal if not handled carefully, a challenge that Goku is more accustomed to managing compared to other characters due to his mastery over the Kaioken technique, another energy-intensive skill that demands precise control of one’s ki.
It appears that Goku and Gohan might never reach the state of Ultra Ego, but there’s a possibility that Broly could unlock it in the future. Some viewers, though, believe that nobody else would strive for Ultra Ego since they consider this form to be unnecessary or pointless.
When Will Dragon Ball Super Chapter 205 Be Released?
Regrettably, Dragon Ball Super remains in an open-ended break, implying that chapter 205’s release date hasn’t been decided yet. It’s possible that the next issue of V-JUMP, coming out on April 20, 2025, might provide updates about the series resuming. Creator Toyotaro has clarified that Dragon Ball Super is not terminated or facing any such issues.
Dragon Ball Super is available to read on MANGA Plus in English and Spanish.
