This article contains spoilers for Fear Street: Prom Queen
Following the enormous triumph of the initial Fear Street trilogy, Netflix has revived the series with a fresh film titled “Fear Street: Prom Queen”. Originally based on RL Stine’s novels, this franchise became a massive success for the streaming service and received praise from both critics and viewers. Now, the series is venturing into uncharted territory, delving into a new narrative and introducing a brand-new ensemble of characters.
The story in the novel “The Prom Queen” follows the life of Lori Granger, who dares to enter the race for Prom Queen despite facing adversity and being an outsider at her school. Unfortunately, fellow students often ridicule her unjustly. However, matters escalate when girls taking part in the prom event start mysteriously disappearing. As the evening progresses from glamour to something ominous, we wonder if Lori will uncover the secrets hidden within Shadyside High School or become a victim of something truly horrifying. Let’s see how “Fear Street: Prom Queen” comes to a close.
What happens in Fear Street: Prom Queen?
1988 serves as the backdrop for the story Fear Street: Prom Queen, which predominantly unfolds at Shadyside High School during the Senior Prom season. Tensions are running high among the candidates, with no less than six young women competing for the crown. Among them is Lori Granger (portrayed by India Fowler), a reserved girl who prefers to keep her distance and avoid the limelight. However, her life has been marked by turmoil. Her mother was once accused of murdering her father, an allegation that prevented her from attending the prom. Despite the lack of evidence against Lori’s mother, many still believed she was responsible for the crime. This time, however, Lori decided to step out of her comfort zone and dared to nominate herself as a candidate for Prom Queen.
In simpler terms, the main antagonists for our protagonist are a clique known as “Wolfpack.” This group is headed by Tiffany Falconer, portrayed by Fina Strazza (renowned from Paper Girls), who embodies the stereotypical mean girl striving to become Prom Queen. Similar to any bully, she makes Lori’s life difficult by belittling her mother. This group includes Melissa, played by Ella Rubin; Debbie, played by Rebecca Ablack; and Linda, portrayed by Ilan O’Driscoll. They are all vying for the title of Prom Queen and want Tiffany to win. The Wolfpack continually torments Lori, but she has a loyal friend in Megan (played by Suzanna Son), who is a bit of a stoner and not well-liked by others. In a surprising move, Megan cuts off her own hand during class as a prank to scare Tiffany and the Wolfpack. However, it turns out to be a trick to frighten them instead.
As a passionate cinephile, let me rephrase that chilling scene:
There’s another contestant vying for the Prom Queen title, and she goes by Christy (portrayed flawlessly by Ariana Greenblatt). However, unlike the other candidates, she has a dark secret – she’s a small-time drug dealer, peddling illicit substances to fellow students.
One fateful evening, after her latest deal, Christy was making her way home when a menacing figure in a red raincoat-like dress and mask struck. With a chilling brutality that sent shockwaves throughout the school, he ended her life with an axe, erasing her from the list of Prom Queen candidates. The following events were filled with dread and suspense as the identity of the murderer remained elusive, leaving behind only haunting images of Christy among the other Prom Queen hopefuls.
How did Fear Street: Prom Queen end?

Christy was kicked out of the contest because she couldn’t attend the tryouts. On the other hand, Tiffany is subtly persuading Lori that she has no chance against her in the competition, advising her to quit. However, it’s not just Tiffany who’s causing trouble for Lori. One of the Wolfpack members, Linda, is passing out flyers at school, encouraging students to vote for her. The big night has arrived, and everyone is dressed up for the event. Tiffany is wearing a stunning blue and black dress, while Lori opts for a white one.
As Lori and Tiffany vie for supremacy, a chilling mystery unfolds within Shadyside High. Linda and her date, Bobby, venture into a private corner where Linda finds her posters torn apart. They hear the door lock behind them, causing Linda to investigate. Bobby grows uneasy as Linda returns, only to find her holding her own intestines – she’s been brutally murdered by a masked assailant. Meanwhile, Megan hears Debbie’s bloodcurdling screams and understands something is amiss. Soon after, the killer strikes again, claiming Bobby’s life as well. Elsewhere, Debbie and Judd become the next targets. Tiffany encounters Lori, revealing secrets about her parents’ troubled past, which may have led to her father’s death. This revelation causes Melissa to distance herself from Tiffany. However, this only spurs Lori on to enhance her image by applying makeup. Upon returning to the event, she outshines Tiffany in a dance battle. Simultaneously, Tyler – Tiffany’s boyfriend – finds himself drawn to Lori as well.
In a different turn of events, Megan confides in Lori that something suspicious is going on, as all the girls nominated for Prom Queen are mysteriously vanishing. Simultaneously, Melissa meets an untimely end at the hands of the unknown culprit. It’s later discovered that there are two killers at large. Upon hearing Megan’s concerns, Lori suspects Megan wants to keep her from leading a normal life or forming meaningful relationships. This accusation infuriates Megan, who acknowledges she has been influenced by Tyler’s affections. Leaving Lori behind, Megan embarks on an investigation into the strange occurrences. It doesn’t take long for Lori to realize Megan was correct, as Tyler meets his end before her very eyes. Meanwhile, Megan discovers the remains of Debbie and others. Eventually, Megan and Lori cross paths as they both try to escape from the killer. They manage to reach the prom event, where it’s announced that Lori has been chosen as this year’s Prom Queen. However, Lori decides to expose the killings to the school. The killer then makes an appearance at the event and is eventually apprehended by the students. Upon removing his mask, it’s revealed that Tiffany’s father is the perpetrator. When questioned about his motives, he confesses that both Tiffany and her mother were desperate to win the Prom Queen title.
Following all the events that unfolded, the police sought a statement from Tiffany’s mother, Nancy Falconer. In this situation, Lori assisted Tiffany and escorted her home. They spent the night there, but suddenly, someone barged into Tiffany’s house brandishing a large knife. It was revealed that the intruder was none other than Nancy herself. She attempted to harm them both, so Tiffany and Lori hid in one of the cupboards. However, it became clear that this was part of a premeditated plan, as they, Tiffany and Nancy, had intended to kill Lori. In the course of events, Nancy admitted that she was responsible for killing Lori’s father because she was in love with him, and her mother took him away from her. As Nancy moved closer to attack Lori with a knife, Tiffany expressed her desire to do the same. But as soon as she tried, Lori delivered a powerful kick and threw Nancy down the stairs, instantly killing her. Enraged, Nancy aimed to kill Lori, but Lori managed to overpower her and struck her on the head. With that, Nancy fell to the ground, and Lori was able to leave their home at last.
The movie contains a scene during the credits, halfway through, where it’s shown that Nancy is indeed alive. A pattern resembling a pentagram made from her blood on the floor suggests that this story may have deeper magical or occult implications, hinting that there’s more to come in this narrative.
