However, much like other instances, even though it paves the way for more profound disclosures, episodes continue to harbor their own enigmas waiting to be unraveled. Among the most astounding mysteries this season revolves around is the mysterious demise of Lady Jin, a supporting character in the series whose passing has left an indelible mark on viewers. Interestingly, Jin was never truly introduced within the series – her initial “showing” is the revelation that she perished, and many speculate she was poisoned.

The Real Consort Jin

In this series, there are two individuals both referred to as Consort Jin. One is the genuine concubine Jin, while the other is a false version of her.

In simpler terms, Jin held a moderate position within the royal household, similar to several other consorts. Notably, her father played a substantial role in court affairs, which provided Jin with an opportunity to leverage his influence. However, Jin’s character was not only haughty but also raised suspicions among many individuals, who believed she may have been plotting to eliminate fellow consorts, particularly those of higher rank.

Attendants serving at Gyokuyou, on the other hand, hold the belief that Jin attempted to poison the Noble Consort several months prior to the incidents in Season 2.

I was witnessing a noticeable shift when, all of a sudden, Jin took a turn for the worse and began to retreat into herself. A year earlier, this illness had already started to take its toll on her, and every month, Jinshi would make a visit to monitor her health and wellbeing.

The Fake Concubine Jin

It’s unfortunate to discover that Jinshi was deceived for an entire year. The woman he believed to be his consort, Lady Jin, was in fact a court maiden who had been impersonating her. Sadly, the genuine Lady Jin had already passed away.

Despite her efforts and schemes, Jin consistently failed to capture the Emperor’s notice. On the other hand, an attendant of hers, Tao, was gaining favor with a senior official. Interestingly, Tao and Jin bore a striking resemblance.

Intriguingly enough, the specifics regarding Jin’s situation remain a mystery. However, through the captivating narrative we are presented with Maomao’s engaging theory of how those events might have transpired. Given that this tale is a work of imagination, it’s up to us, as readers, to accept Maomao’s hypothesis as the truth.

It seems that Maomao suspects that Lady Jin became envious of her servant and began tormenting her emotionally and possibly physically. The situation escalated to such an extent that a dispute between them erupted, leading to the maid unfortunately fatally injuring Jin.

With others supporting Tao, they devised a strategy to conceal the murder: Tao would disguise herself as a consort, simultaneously feigning illness attributed to poisonous fungi, thus enabling her to mask her face behind bandages.

In my excitement, I found myself part of a secretive scheme, skillfully concealing the truth from our inner circle for an entire year. Yet, the attendant remained a target, her marriage plans escalating. If she wed, it would unravel our deception and potentially bring hardships upon all us ladies-in-waiting. So, with heavy hearts, we resolved to terminate the false consort and close this chapter for good.
