Until Dawn 2 Rumors Explained

Until Dawn 2 Rumors Explained

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the rumblings of an Until Dawn sequel have me more intrigued than a ghostly figure peering through an old, dusty windowpane at midnight. The resurgence of horror IP in recent years has been nothing short of a delightful scream-fest, and Supermassive Games has been at the forefront of this terrifying trend.

Back in 2015, I got hooked on Supermassive Games’ masterpiece, “Until Dawn”. It quickly built a dedicated fanbase, making the studio known for delivering chilling horror games with a unique blend of realism, cinematic flair, and A-list celebrities. With the recent remake of “Until Dawn” hitting the shelves, featuring upgraded visuals, improved controls, and new content, whispers about a genuine sequel have started to circulate.

It seems like horror themes have never been more prevalent in video gaming today. Games such as Resident Evil are making a strong return, and notable releases like Alan Wake 2 and the remake of Silent Hill 2 demonstrate the worth of chilling, unsettling narratives that make you feel uncomfortable. Supermassive Games stands out as an example, focusing on creating horror stories in an interactive format, following the path set by Until Dawn. With a new remake available and a film adaptation upcoming, there’s definitely a demand for an Until Dawn 2 sequel; however, whether or not it materializes is yet to be determined.

There Have Been Rumblings About an Until Dawn Sequel

Recent Until Dawn 2 Rumors

Nick Baker, one of the co-founders of XboxEra, recently expressed his disappointment on Twitter about not being able to reveal that he knew about a potential new sequel for the game “Until Dawn”. However, he shared some additional details he heard about this upcoming sequel. It seems that Firesprite is reportedly the studio making it. Baker’s comments follow an article by Eurogamer discussing the possibility of a new “Until Dawn” game, based on speculations raised by changes introduced in the game’s remake.

It’s intriguing and insightful to note that the whisper about Firesprite developing the sequel to ‘Until Dawn’ has surfaced. While talks of ‘Until Dawn 2’ have been circulating for some time, tying the project to Firesprite provides a tangible lead: According to Jason Schreier from Bloomberg, Firesprite is currently working on a horror game, potentially expanding an existing series. Given that Firesprite is part of Sony’s stable, and Sony’s collection of horror-themed IP is rather slim, the pieces seem to fit when connecting Firesprite with ‘Until Dawn 2’. After all, Sony owns the rights to the franchise.

It’s important to note that any chatter about a potential sequel to ‘Until Dawn 2’ should be viewed with some skepticism, regardless of where it originates. A key factor to consider in all this speculation is the current situation at Firesprite Studios: Their ‘Twisted Metal’ project was allegedly shelved, and they faced significant layoffs earlier in the year. Given these turbulent times, it might be challenging for a ‘Until Dawn 2’ sequel to materialize, if one was even in development initially.

While Until Dawn does indeed have a sequel titled Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, it’s essential to note that this game is fundamentally different from the original, primarily being a VR rail-shooter and thus serving more as a spin-off or novelty title rather than a traditional follow-up.

Until Dawn 2 Teased With the Remake’s New Endings

The most compelling evidence in support of Until Dawn 2 may not be news from industry insiders, but the groundwork laid by new content in the remake. While none of the original game’s endings leave much room for a sequel, the remake includes new epilogues that tease the continuation of Josh’s and Sam’s stories. These could have been included for the purpose of making a more conclusive and satisfying ending, but it’s also possible that they are setting the foundation for a new story in the Until Dawn canon. Only time will tell if Sony is indeed pursuing a full-fledged sequel, spin-off, or other Until Dawn project.
