Unveiling One Piece: Theories That Could Change Everything!

Summary

  • Zoro’s katana may be the legendary Shodai Kitetsu, hinted at within the narrative.
  • The Hito Hito no Mi fruit may have hidden mythical powers that will be unleashed upon awakening.
  • The Blackbeard Pirates may gain their Devil Fruit powers through a cannibalistic method.

One Piece is one of the longest-running Shonen manga ever created, and as a result, numerous fan speculations have arisen. Given the enduring popularity of this series, it’s no surprise that such theories exist. However, in the case of One Piece, where crucial details are often withheld for dramatic effect, some of these fan theories may actually align with the story’s development, potentially even becoming reality within the narrative itself.

Although the accuracy of these diverse fan theories remains uncertain, some do possess enough supporting evidence within the storyline itself to make them plausible. Here are several instances of these theories.

5. Ethanbaron V. Nusujuro’s Sword

It Is The Fabled Shodai Kitetsu

  • Theory in a Nutshell: Ethanbaron V. Nusujuro’s katana is the Shodai Kitetsu

The Kitetsus represent a collection of katanas, specifically Meitos, forged in Wano by multiple blacksmiths. Legends claim that these swords are cursed, causing harm to their bearers. Roronoa Zoro, demonstrating bravery and disregard for the blade’s supposed curse, received the Sandai Kitetsu without charge after attempting to wield it in a manner that could have cost him his arm, but managing to miss. Since then, he has continued to use this sword regularly, and even encountered its creator, Kozuki Sukiyaki.

I’ve noticed that Sukiyaki has shared with Zoro the legend of the Kitetsu blades, a lineage cursed through generations. Among these, the earlier models have been unveiled: the Nidai Kitetsu, a sword once wielded by Luffy and one of the 21 Great Grade Blades, and the Shodai Kitetsu, an ancient katana that is said to be among the 12 Supreme Grade Blades. However, it seems that the Shodai Kitetsu might not have been as hidden as previously thought. Recently, Zoro has confirmed that the sword Ethanbaron V. Nusujuro once belonged to the series. Given that we now know about its two later versions, it’s plausible to assume that this very sword could be the Shodai Kitetsu itself.

In the same realm where Kuzan was once believed to be the captain of the Titanic, this theory resides. It’s based on two distinct pieces of information, but there’s enough vagueness that it might not be accurate until further confirmation. However, at this point, it’s uncertain what could potentially disprove it.

4. The Hito Hito No Mi Is A Mythical Zoan

Does It Just Turn You Into A Human?

  • Theory in a Nutshell: The Hito Hito no Mi is a cleverly disguised Mythical Zoan that will have its true power unleashed upon awakening.

The notorious Zoan fruit carried by Tony Tony Chopper is frequently criticized for its lack of utility for humanoid characters, as they seem to make up the vast majority of those who consume Devil Fruits. However, Chopper’s transformation into a human has given him increased intelligence, enabling him to function as a doctor and act as a translator between humans and animals because he belongs to both species on a technical level. A more recent focus in the study of Devil Fruits is their potential for awakening.

As I stand by, I’ve come to understand that Luffy’s Gomu Gomu no Mi is not your typical Paramecia, but rather a Mythical Zoan known as the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. This places it among the majority of other Hito Hito no Mi, which are also Mythical Zoans. The only exception to this rule so far is the Hito Hito no Mi itself. It’s intriguing to consider that upon awakening, the Hito Hito no Mi might prove to be a formidably powerful Zoan. Its disguise as an apparently ordinary Devil Fruit could also serve as a ruse, deterring most intelligent beings from consuming it in exchange for the ability to swim. Similar to the Gomu Gomu no Mi, it appears to be much more potent than initially assumed.

3. Teach’s Murder Method

How The Blackbeard Pirates Gain Their Devil Fruit Powers

  • Theory in a Nutshell: The Blackbeard Pirates gain their Devil Fruit powers through some form of cannibalism, much like Big Mom did.

The enigmatic Blackbeard Pirates are steeped in a veil of uncertainty. Despite their significant role as antagonists, much about them remains undisclosed. However, it seems that the solution to one of their most intriguing puzzles might have been unnoticed by fans all along. Rumor has it that the crew slays Devil Fruit users for the purpose of acquiring their powers through methods yet to be revealed. So far, we only know that the user must perish in order for this power transfer to occur.

As an ardent follower, I’ve been pondering about the mysterious origin of a once-notorious Yonko – Big Mom, formerly known as Charlotte Linlin. Before she ruled the seas, she was just a boisterous child, filled with ambition and untamed power, striving to control her instincts. On her sixth birthday, it’s heavily hinted that she consumed Mother Carmel, her caretaker who also happened to be a clandestine human trafficker, along with the other children under her charge. Awake the next day, she found herself wielding the powers of Carmel’s Devil Fruit – Soru Soru no Mi.

It’s possible that the Blackbeard Pirates might adopt a similar method of acquiring their powers, as suggested by one scene where Teach was covered when with Newgate’s corpse and then reappeared with his powers. This is the only instance in the series where we see power transfer, but it’s hidden under a tarp. The way Big Mom gained her powers through cannibalism is currently the only other known method of forceful Devil Fruit power transfer that the audience has witnessed.

2. Edward Weevil Is A MADS Project

A Clone Or Merely A Being With An Altered Lineage Factor?

  • Theory in a Nutshell: Edward Weevil’s status as Whitebeard’s “son” may be the result of some sort of DNA grafting from MADS. He could be a clone or merely have had his lineage factor modified to make him more like Whitebeard.

Edward Weevil, a new character introduced in the “One Piece” series, carries an air of mystery around him. Before the Shichibukai system was dismantled, he was the last pirate to hold that rank. Interestingly, his mother, Miss Buckin, claims that he is the son of Whitebeard; however, this claim has been generally disputed. Despite all the refutation, it’s hard to overlook his physical prowess, which mirrors Edward Newgate at his peak. He also shares a resemblance with Whitebeard in terms of physique and mustache. But if Weevil isn’t actually Whitebeard’s son, then how does this likeness come about?

Investigating Miss Buckin’s past might offer some insights. While the specific details of their connection remain unclear, it is true that Buckin was observed with Newgate while they were part of the Rocks Pirates. Following the group’s dissolution, it appears they went their own ways. Newgate established the Whitebeard Pirates, and Buckin joined MADS, an illicit research organization that made significant scientific advancements. Despite being viewed as a freeloader within the group, she was the model for the first successful clone, Stussy, named after her mother, Miss Buckingham Stussy. Additionally, advancements in lineage factor duplication have been demonstrated, with the Seraphim possessing the DNA of several Sea Warlords and Alber’s Lunarian DNA fused within them.

13 years prior to its closure approximately 26 years back, MADS was operational. In the same “Vivre Card – One Piece Visual Dictionary”, Stussy’s age was given as 36, suggesting that it was around this time that the first cloning attempt on her was successful. Weevil, according to the same source, is roughly a year younger than Stussy, which implies his birth took place during MADS’ active years. However, it should be noted that Weevil might not be an exact clone like Stussy or the Pacifistas, as his appearance does not resemble Newgate in the same way.

It’s plausible that Weevil carries Whitebeard’s genetic code, potentially through a process similar to how Sanji’s brothers were genetically engineered before birth. Buckin has directly suggested that Vegapunk could verify Weevil’s lineage, which adds weight to this theory given his role in the discovery of the Lineage Factor and creation of clones. This could imply a deeper connection between Weevil and Whitebeard.

1. Vivi Is The Next Straw Hat Pirate

X Marks The Spot

  • Theory in a Nutshell: Nefertari Vivi will rejoin the Straw Hat Pirates.

Prior to the break (Timeskip), the Princess of Alabasta Kingdom briefly joined the Straw Hat Pirates. From Whisky Peak to Alabasta, she accompanied them because she wanted to prevent her kingdom from being seized. She was given the chance to permanently join the pirate crew but chose to fulfill her royal responsibilities instead. More recently, Vivi was taken captive by the World Government and then managed to escape by hiding inside Wapol’s mouth.

Since Vivi has become a fugitive, it might not be so unwise for her to reconnect with her former companions. The narrative itself provides clues towards this possibility. One such clue is the ‘X’ symbol that the Straw Hats used in Alabasta to identify themselves. Given Mr. 2 Bon Clay’s ability to mimic their physical forms, the ‘X’ was also a crucial part of their secret handshake. Later, the ‘X’ was used as a silent farewell to Vivi, symbolizing her recognition as a Straw Hat.

Recently, this ‘X’ mark has been emphasized in the manga, suggesting it still holds significance. Moreover, ‘X’ is the Roman numeral for ten, which could imply Vivi as the tenth member of their crew. This connection between Vivi and the ‘X’ could potentially hint at her possible reunion with the Straw Hats.

In essence, while it’s factually incorrect because the crew already has ten members, the title suggests that a new member is joining, which aligns with a regular pattern seen in the series where certain chapters are named after the number of crewmates they introduce. For instance, Zoro joined in Chapter 6, titled “The First“, Sanji joined in Chapter 68, titled “The Fourth“, and Brook joined in Chapter 489, titled “The Eighth“. This isn’t always the case for every chapter introducing a crew member, but its consistent occurrence makes it a recurring theme. Using this convention, Vivi could be considered the tenth crew member, corresponding to her X.

Furthermore, Vivi rejoining the Straw Hats for their confrontation with the Government hints at the history of the Nefertari clan. Nefertari Lili belonged to the original group known as the World Government founders, nicknamed the First Twenty. However, unlike her fellow nobles, she chose not to align with the World Nobles. Her actions, such as dispersing the poneglyphs and altering her family name’s “D” initial, suggest her opposition to the World Government.
