As I delve deeper into the Elbaf arc of “One Piece,” my anticipation grows with every turn of each new chapter. Given the exceptional quality that Oda has consistently delivered in these initial chapters, it seems we’re in store for even greater revelations as the narrative unfolds further. Fans eagerly await the unveiling of monumental lore from this final saga, as it promises to uncover the most thrilling secrets that the “One Piece” world has hidden until now.
In the narrative of One Piece, the land of Elbaf is strongly associated with the deity known as the Sun God, Nika. This link was emphasized in the Egghead Arc, and it was further developed in chapter 1136 when Oda disclosed intriguing details about the world’s history involving Nika. Now, it’s officially revealed that there were previously two Sun Gods named Nika before Luffy.
Luffy As The Latest Sun God Nika
- Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu no Mi
- In Wano, Luffy ended up becoming Nika
Fans were taken aback when Luffy transformed into the Sun God Nika during the storyline, as nobody had anticipated him becoming a deity. However, as the Wano Country arc unfolded, it provided fascinating insights into Luffy’s Devil Fruit, ultimately revealing that it possessed divine power. As a child, Luffy consumed the Nika fruit, but its full potential remained dormant due to the fruit not being activated yet. During his battle against Kaido, Luffy reached a new level, particularly after he perished in combat, triggering the activation of his fruit’s powers. At this point, the Five Elders intervened and shared an abundance of information about the Sun God Nika, who they declared to be the Warrior of Liberation and a smiling god that brings joy to the oppressed and frees them from their bondage. With his rubbery physique and infectious grin, Luffy currently wields the most absurd power ever conceived, just as the Sun God Nika did.

It was also disclosed that the Nika fruit had selected Luffy among others, due to the independent will possessed by all Zoan fruits. This elusive fruit had been avoiding capture by the World Government for 800 years and finally chose Luffy as its user, someone it deemed worthy of wielding its power.

Utilizing the might of the Nika Fruit, Luffy managed to engage Kaido in battle on equal terms and ultimately emerged victorious. There’s no denying that Luffy embodies the spirit of Joy Boy and he’s undoubtedly fulfilling every hope set upon him, especially as the great war of One Piece approaches its climax.
Joy Boy, The Second Sun God
Joy Boy Ate The Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika
As a die-hard fan, it’s no wonder that the Nika Fruit has multiple bearers – it’s just following the pattern set by all other Devil Fruits in our beloved series! By now, we all know about the Devil Fruit reincarnation cycle. So, it’s no shock that the Nika Fruit, like its fellow fruits, has been passed down through generations.
Before Luffy, this particular Devil Fruit had no known user for hundreds of years. In fact, the Elders have explicitly mentioned that the Nika Fruit hasn’t been awakened in 800 years! This tidbit alone hints that the fruit was last awakened during the Void Century and the one who awakened it was its last user, Joy Boy.

In the Egghead Arc of One Piece, we learn about Joy Boy, an extraordinary individual who lived during the Void Century and was born in the Ancient Kingdom. Similar to Luffy, Joy Boy possessed the power to strengthen and contract, and he transformed into the Sun God Nika, taking on a completely white form. His powers were immense, so much so that Imu and the other 19 Kings had to unite their forces to defeat him. After a long-lasting battle against the Ancient Kingdom, they finally managed to bring him down at its conclusion.
In the closing days of the Void Century, Joy Boy, who had amassed valuable knowledge, passed it on to future generations before his demise, leaving behind a wish for someone to reappear in 800 years and carry out the destiny of D. On the fabled island of Laugh Tale, Joy Boy concealed the One Piece, which was later discovered by Roger about 26 years ago, leading him to become the Pirate King. Following Roger’s passing, the world witnessed the rise of a Golden Age of Piracy, as countless pirates ventured out onto the oceans.
The Original Sun God Nika From Elbaf
There Existed A Sun God Before Joy Boy

It was once widely believed that Joy Boy was the first Nika, but recent findings suggest otherwise. As we now know, Joy Boy wasn’t the inaugural Nika. Instead, there was a Nika who lived before Joy Boy, a powerful being who confronted an incredibly potent force capable of destroying the world as we know it in the world of One Piece. According to Elbaphian scripture Harley, the world of One Piece has been destroyed not once, but twice. The first destruction predates the Void Century, likely occurring a few centuries ago. At that time, the world was undergoing significant changes and was on the verge of being destroyed. This calamity was either brought about or prevented by the Sun God Nika, whose existence Oda hinted at in One Piece chapter 1136.
As per the Giants’ understanding, it remains undecided whether Nika is a deity of destruction or liberation. What they do know is that Nika’s name consistently appears when the world faces destruction, causing confusion among the people of Elbaf. It’s uncertain who Nika fought in battle, or if he was merely a creation by slaves as a symbol of a heavenly figure. However, with the story progressing towards the heart of Elbaf, where focus is shifting towards Loki and the Holy Knights, alongside the Straw Hat Pirates exploring Giants’ land, fans might soon discover more details about this divine entity. For now, all we can do is remain patient and let Oda unveil these intriguing mysteries in his own time.
