Unveiling the Secrets of the Mysterious Fifth Planet in Revenge of the Savage Planet!

Initially, when Raccoon Logic unveiled “Revenge of the Savage Planet”, which is a sequel to their earlier title “Journey to the Savage Planet”, they disclosed that players would have the opportunity to traverse four planets and an enigmatic, concealed world concealed within the game’s depths. Recently, the team has divulged some intriguing tidbits about this elusive fifth planet. This secret planet, it seems, boasts a 1990s arcade-inspired neon aesthetic and concentrates on indoor settings, leading many to speculate that it could be the most formidable of all the planets in “Revenge of the Savage Planet”.

In an interview with Game Rant, Alex Hutchinson, creative director of Revenge of the Savage Planet, along with audio director Cameron Jarvis, revealed tantalizing tidbits about the game’s fifth planet. Despite their reluctance to reveal too much due to the team’s desire to keep players guessing until launch, they did drop some intriguing hints regarding the planet’s origins, its unique musical style, and the various creatures that adventurers might encounter during their exploration. Even fans of Journey to the Savage Planet will find a wealth of fresh, unexpected delights in this vibrant neon-lit world. The interview has been condensed for conciseness and clarity.

The Fifth Planet: An Internal World With ’90s Arcade’ Theming

In a past conversation with Game Rant, Alex Hutchinson referred to the universe of Revenge of the Savage Planet as a “hopeful dystopia.” The protagonist has recently been fired from Alta Interglobal, opening up an opportunity for them to embark on a fresh life across the four planets they’ve been assigned. However, there seems to be a lurking sense of danger throughout their adventures, especially noticeable on the fifth planet, where within the depths of an unidentified creature’s lair, cryptic invitations like “Join my game” are repeatedly encountered.

Q: Where did the idea of a 90s/arcade-themed planet first originate?

As a dedicated explorer, I can’t help but hint at an extraordinary discovery: delve into every nook and cranny of the game’s four primary planets, and you’ll stumble upon a unique world, meticulously crafted as if by human hands. The significance behind this realm and the reasons for its existence – those mysteries await your own gaming journey to uncover.

Was creating a predominantly “cave-like” planet for internal use distinct from crafting the other planets within the game, and if so, did it present any special difficulties?

Hutchinson: Typically, Revenge is a game that suits your unique approach. While there’s a main quest you can find, you’re free to explore numerous other activities or veer off course at your discretion. This flexibility allows us to design challenges from various perspectives and encourage different solutions. Additionally, we wanted to test the player occasionally, so these ‘shrines,’ as we refer to them, offer an exciting twist to the game by requiring specific actions from the player!

A: What inspired the distinctive ’90s-style music on this planet?

Jarvis: As we began exploring the music for the shrines, it seemed fitting to make a change from the rest of the games’ soundtrack, aiming for a sharp contrast. In the outdoor maps, we often favored acoustic guitar, banjo, and instruments with a more earthy sound. If electric guitar was used, it would be a soft, mellow tone or a rich fuzz, but never too abrasive.

In the sanctuaries, we allowed our musician to experiment freely with his synthesizer barrages and introduced numerous electric guitar tones that were sharp and luminous. This not only created an appealing, distinctive ambiance but also harmonized effectively with our concept of the sanctuaries as a wholly synthetic entity within this primarily pristine alien star system.

Players Will Encounter Many New Creatures And Other Secrets

Absolutely, no alien world would be fully realized without creatures to discover and classify, and the enigmatic fifth one is no different. This entertaining lair teems with cyber-upgraded variations of critters players have previously encountered, and much like on the earlier planets, they’ll have opportunities to engage with them in numerous distinctive interactions. Some of these creatures can even take flight – maybe players can employ them to gain a bit of altitude as well?

A: Can you provide any information regarding the person who designed the “Den of Fun”? It’s the voice that really catches my attention, it’s as if he’s a madcap game show host!

Hutchinson posits that uncovering who built the shrines and their motives is a central enigma within the game. The intriguing concept lies in the fact that even in a world plagued by numerous genuine issues, one could ultimately be brought down by ‘distractions’ or ‘entertainment.’

A: Can you provide any clues regarding the types of beings that inhabit this fifth world? Are these entities more akin to mechanical constructs?

The beings inhabiting the fifth world are cybernetic versions of their original game characters. These creatures have undergone unusual cybernetic modifications, such as laser-beam visors, rotating gun turrets, plasma protective shields, and various other futuristic gadgets. And yes, some can now even fly! Just envision a flying puffer fish with laser-beam eyes.
