  • Elbaf likely originally possessed the legendary Devil Fruit, Gomu Gomu no Mi.

In the world of One Piece, the Hito Hito no Mi, more commonly known as the Gomu Gomu no Mi, is a legendary Devil Fruit. Initially thought to be ordinary, it was later unveiled in the Wano Country Arc that this fruit was once a god-tier fruit, but its name had been changed by the government to conceal its existence and powers. The main character of the series, Luffy, possesses this powerful ability known as the Gomu Gomu no Mi.

Through the years, people recognize him as a formidable figure, and he’s certainly made his strength uniquely his own. Given his character, it’s not surprising that the Gomu Gomu no Mi seems tailor-made for Luffy. This is a Zoan type fruit, which means it possesses its own will and was given to Luffy because of his personality traits. Yet, the origins of this Devil Fruit continue to be shrouded in mystery. The possibility exists that the Gomu Gomu no Mi may have traveled all the way from Elbaf to the East Blue.

How Shanks Stole The Gomu Gomu no Mi

  • Shanks Stoke The Gomu Gomu no Mi 13 Years Ago
  • The Devil Fruit Was Eaten By Luffy

Shanks is a character whose background is largely unknown to fans, but it’s clear that he has strong ties to the Nika Nika no Mi, or Gomu Gomu no Mi as it’s also called. This Devil Fruit was initially associated with Shanks, and this isn’t at all unexpected given what we learned during the Wano arc – it was Shanks who pilfered the fruit from the World Government. About 13 years ago, this particular Devil Fruit was being transported across the Grand Line, for some reason. The government vessel carrying the fruit was heavily secured, and the elite group CP9 were in charge of the mission to deliver it to the authorities. However, somehow Shanks managed to get wind of the fruit’s existence and successfully stole it before they could reach their destination.

The Devil Fruit that was stolen from me 13 years ago! — Who’s Who

1. It remains unclear how Shanks discovered the location of the fruit and who was carrying it, but it’s clear that his actions were well-planned. When the Government ship was assaulted by the Red Hair Pirates, they managed to swipe the Devil Fruit, leaving Who’s Who in disgrace. This led to him being removed from his post and eventually sentenced to imprisonment in the Marijoa Holy Land.

2. Shanks’ knowledge of the fruit’s location and its carrier is a mystery, but there’s no doubt that he had a strategic plan in place. After the Government ship was attacked by the Red Hair Pirates, they made off with the Devil Fruit, causing Who’s Who great shame. As a result, he lost his position and ultimately ended up imprisoned in the Marijoa Holy Land.

3. The details of how Shanks found out about the fruit and its transporter are unknown, but it’s evident that his actions were carefully thought out. When the Government ship was attacked by the Red Hair Pirates, they snatched the Devil Fruit, leaving Who’s Who in a state of embarrassment. This led to him being dismissed from his position and eventually confined to the Marijoa Holy Land.

4. It’s still unclear how Shanks became aware of the fruit’s location and its carrier, but it’s clear that he had a well-considered plan. When the Government ship was attacked by the Red Hair Pirates and the Devil Fruit was stolen, Who’s Who suffered humiliation, leading to his removal from office and imprisonment in the Marijoa Holy Land.

5. The specifics of Shanks knowing about the fruit and its carrier are a mystery, but it’s obvious that he had a clever strategy. When the Government ship was attacked by the Red Hair Pirates, they took the Devil Fruit, causing Who’s Who to feel shame. This eventually led to him being stripped of his position and jailed in the Marijoa Holy Land.

While Shanks held onto the Devil Fruit, fans will recall that he established his residence in East Blue for approximately a year. It was during this time that he encountered Luffy, a young boy who later consumed the Gomu Gomu no Mi, marking the beginning of the storyline of One Piece.

How Luffy Ate The Gomu Gomu no Mi

Luffy Mistook The Fruit For Dessert

It’s no secret that Luffy consumed the Gomu Gomu no Mi; fans witnessed this event right from the start of the series, in the very first chapter. During Shanks’ time with the Red Hair Pirates, Higuma the Mountain Bandit once attacked him. Despite being insulted, Shanks chose not to retaliate, which left Luffy feeling irritated, as he perceived Shanks as cowardly. However, Luffy didn’t grasp then that some conflicts aren’t worth engaging in. In a fit of anger, Luffy accidentally consumed the Gomu Gomu no Mi, believing it to be dessert, and from that moment on, his life took an unexpected turn. Luffy acquired rubber powers, allowing him to stretch. Initially, Shanks was disappointed by this, but it quickly became evident that he had started placing trust in Luffy. In a demonstration of faith, Shanks even went as far as sacrificing his arm for Luffy’s sake. Placing his hat in Luffy’s hands, Shanks challenged him to grow into a Great Pirate and surpass him, so one day he could return the hat to its rightful owner.

In the course of the tale, spectators watched Luffy significantly enhance his powers. Over a span of ten years, Luffy’s might escalated significantly, and he swiftly became notorious in East Blue upon embarking on his voyage. Before long, Luffy was the most sought-after individual in East Blue, having earned a bounty of 30 million berries. Subsequently, this sum climbed to 100 million, and eventually soared to an astounding 300 million as the Straw Hat Pirates ventured further along their fated journey across the Grand Line.

In Dressrosa, Luffy surpassed 400 million berries and went on to achieve 500 million, earning him the title of the Fifth Emperor of the Sea in Whole Cake Island. This recognition came with a bounty worth 1.5 billion berries. Later, Luffy defeated Kaido and his bounty increased to an astounding 3 billion berries. Interestingly enough, it was during this confrontation that the genuine essence of Devil Fruits was unveiled to viewers, as Luffy awakened the Gomu Gomu no Mi, transforming into Joy Boy and revealing his role in the world.

Elbaf, Nika, and The Legendary Devil Fruit

The Gomu Gomu No Mi Could’ve Come From Elbaf

In Elbaf, a land closely connected with Nika, stories about the original Nika are believed to originate. Notably, it’s home to the Harley, a tale that spans across the Three Worlds. Worship of Nika in this country runs deep, with many aspiring to embody the Sun God. But there’s more: Elbaf’s royal family possesses a legendary Devil Fruit, a family heirloom rumored to be destined for the future Nika. Despite Loki consuming this fruit, it’s Luffy who is known as Nika, not Loki – adding another layer of intrigue to the story.

It’s obvious that Luffy and Loki don’t share the same power, indicating that Loki doesn’t truly possess the power of a Sun God. However, it doesn’t rule out the possibility that Elbaf once had the power of the Sun God. The Devil Fruit could have been present in Elbaf at some point in the past. Loki is known to have consumed the Devil Fruit 14 years ago upon killing King Harald, but what if the fruit was exchanged long before that?

Beneath Aurust Castle, I’ve come across a ransacked treasure room once associated with Loki’s key. The empty boxes suggest a past raid, perhaps even of the elusive Gomu Gomu no Mi. However, its escape seems peculiar. Here’s the probable sequence: King Harald, known for his friendship with Shamrock, may have been eliminated by Loki due to this connection. This could explain why the fruit was taken from Aurust Castle.

It’s plausible that Shamrock aimed to seize the fruit and deliver it to the government. Yet, the ensuing chaos saw the fruit saved, possibly by Loki himself or even a hero like Scopper Gaban. They then may have released it back into the sea.

It seems likely that the World Government found and obtained the artifact within a year. However, given Shanks’ connection to Shamrock, he might have learned about its whereabouts by tracking his brothers’ activities, ultimately managing to steal the fruit and subsequently pass it on to Luffy.
