Summary
- Silent Hill f likely to have references to older games, but risks negating new setting advantages.
- Speculation on new monsters and redesigns for Silent Hill f, with central stalkers expected.
- Nurses, dogs, insects, and new monsters like Sakura Head can be expected in Silent Hill f.
As a dedicated Silent Hill fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the upcoming game, Silent Hill f. Although it’s breaking new ground by venturing far from the familiar titular town, I’m confident it will subtly nod to its roots and share some common elements with the classic games. Overloading it with too many references could dilute the impact of its fresh setting and disappoint fans who expect something different from the previous games.
Nevertheless, even though the game has been relocated, it remains a significant part of the ongoing Silent Hill series lore and hints at some connection within. Whether this relationship manifests as subtle references like notes or more literal connections between Ebisugaoka and Silent Hill towns, to explain the presence of the other world, is yet to be revealed. It’s anticipated that new monsters will be introduced in this installment, but there’s speculation about whether any creatures from past games will reappear or undergo a makeover for Silent Hill’s latest version.
5. “Bogeyman”
Stalking Players Until Their Heart Stops
It’s fortunately improbable that Pyramid Head roams 1960’s Japan, repeating past errors. However, it wouldn’t be shocking if a malevolent character similar to a Boogeyman haunted Hinako throughout the narrative.
Apart from Pyramid Head, there have been multiple variations of this antagonist character across the Silent Hill series. For instance, The Butcher appears in Silent Hill: Origins, and the Bogeyman armed with a hammer can be found in Silent Hill: Downpour.
In addition, the prominence of the persistent antagonist or stalker character in modern horror has significantly increased, largely due to the exceptional portrayal of this type by the Resident Evil series more recently. Characters such as Jack Baker from Resident Evil 7 and Mr X in the remake of Resident Evil 2 have played a significant role in this success.
4. Nurses
The Core Of Silent Hill’s Healthcare
Nurses are often seen in horror media, particularly in the Silent Hill game series. Interestingly, they don’t appear in just three entries – Shattered Memories, Downpour, and The Room. However, the Patient from The Room shares some similarities. So, it’s quite likely that nurses will make an appearance in some form or another in the upcoming Silent Hill. They might return wearing the traditional uniforms from the earlier games, or their design could be updated to reflect historical Japanese nurse attire, offering a fresh take on this classic enemy.
In the latest trailer for Silent Hill, it appears that the narrative is emphasizing the connection between the past and the current scenario. Given this context, the return of the Nurse seems plausible, or maybe we’ll see her debuting as the earliest documented encounter with this adversary in the timeline.
3. Sakura Head/Cherry Blossom
The New Freaky Kid On The Scary Block
In the upcoming version of Silent Hill, it’s improbable we’ll see the identical monster from before, as its presence was deeply connected to the narrative and personalities of Silent Hill: The Short Message. However, it’s plausible that the floral motif and maybe a related entity associated with this creature could surface in the series’ next installment.
In the reboot of the Silent Hill series, Sakura Head was the debut monster, and a recurring theme in both The Short Message and f is child abuse. It’s plausible that the design elements of Sakura Head, such as its floral distortions, are echoed in the enemy designs within f. There seems to be a striking resemblance between the Flower Girl from Silent Hill f and the Sakura Heads from The Short Message.
2. Dogs
The Perfidy Of Pets
In the captivating world of Silent Hill, I often find myself going up against a recurring type of foe – creatures resembling canines. These monstrous mutts have been around since the inception of the series. I can’t help but wonder, what was it that landed these furry fiends in Silent Hill time and again? Did they all forget where their treats were hidden? Or perhaps they had a penchant for chasing their tails too vigorously? Maybe they were just caught in a never-ending loop of digging up buried bones!
Unfortunately, these faithful friends remain silent about their intentions, and in an ironic turn of events, they are often pitted against the player character in large groups. One might wonder if Vincent queries them, “Do they appear like bones to you?” If dogs make a return in Silent Hill f, it can only be wished that they aren’t transformed into small Shiba Inus, although there is precedent for this breed within the Silent Hill universe as well.
1. Insects
Nature Can Be Terrifying
Massive creatures reminiscent of real-life insects have resurfaced in numerous editions of the video game series, Silent Hill, often serving as formidable bosses rather than benign entities. Given that the town of Ebisugaoka, the backdrop for Silent Hill f, exhibits a more rural setting with expansive countryside, the likelihood of encountering a colossal terrifying arthropod increases.
In the past posts, we’ve highlighted various insects like larvae, cockroaches, beetles, worms, moths, large moths, and others. However, it’s worth noting that spiders aren’t on this list (except for spider-like characters in games like the remake of Silent Hill 2). Fingers crossed that this pattern persists and we don’t encounter any monstrous, terrifying spiders in Ebisugaoka. If there are giant spiders lurking around, Silent Hill won’t stay silent for long!
