They are typically large, grotesque, and generally unappealing, resembling other mythical beings like trolls or ogres, who are often portrayed as colossal and fearsome entities.

In fantastical narratives, I’ve noticed that certain races can progress and transcend their traditional forms, often denoted by a prefix like “High-“. For instance, the term “High Orc” refers to an evolved version of the common orc species. These High Orcs are generally more advanced along the evolutionary path, possessing greater power, magical abilities, and unique traits that distinguish them from their ordinary counterparts.

In the series “Solo Leveling“, High Orcs represent a formidable red-skinned orc species, renowned for their immense power. An individual High Orc can match up against an A-Rank Hunter. These powerful beings are typically encountered at A-Rank Gates (or beyond). They exhibit intelligence and the ability to strategize with humans, making them unique among their kind.

In the course of the Hunters Guild’s backup squad’s assault on an A-Rank Gate, they were ambushed by a group of Dungeon Jackals, which Jinwoo recognized as being collar-worn, suggesting they were domesticated and potentially trained. The ruler of the Dungeon is a formidable High Orc shaman named Kargalgan, who communicates his message through a possessed orc: engage in battle now and face certain death, or venture into the heart of the beasts’ domain to meet with him.

Unlike other High Orcs, Kargalgan stands out with a multitude of neon teal tattoos over most of his body, a hood concealing his face beneath a mask made of bone, and a necklace adorned with human skulls. As the Leader of an A-Rank Dungeon, Kargalgan boasts strength comparable to that of an S-Rank Hunter and is exceptionally skilled in the application of diverse magical abilities. These encompass curses causing pain, weakening defenses, inducing status effects, and invoking debilitating conditions – all of which make confronting him and his legion of bloodthirsty orcs a formidable task. Furthermore, Kargalgan’s aura of fear is so potent that it extends beyond the dungeon gate and reaches Woo Jinchul outside. Unlike other magic-users who must manage their Mana reserves, Kargalgan seems to have no limitations on the range or power of his spells – making Jinwoo’s impending struggle for survival in episode 6 his most challenging battle yet.
