Some gamers prefer titles that let them heavily customize their experience, whether it’s a shooting game, a role-playing game, or something else. This isn’t always about having a huge world to explore, but rather about having lots of options to personalize how they play. Everyone enjoys different kinds of customization, so what appeals to one player might not appeal to another.
Customization in games can take many forms, like creating your character, designing their outfits, developing skills, and making choices in conversations. If you’re looking for games with lots of customization options to enjoy in 2025 and beyond, these upcoming titles are definitely worth adding to your wishlist. While some offer more customization than others, they all look promising.
Demon Tides
Going Beyond Platforming
Demon Tides is a new platforming game with a large, explorable world. Players will sail to different islands to battle enemies and overcome platforming obstacles. It’s a sequel to 2021’s Demon Turf, and appears to be a much bigger and more expansive game.
Steam’s description highlights an impressive 50,000 different ways to customize your character’s hair and clothes. This level of detail is great news for players who enjoy personalizing their experience and freely exploring the game world.
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined
Vocations For Days
- Planned Release Date: 2/5/26
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S
The first Dragon Quest 7 came out for the PlayStation in 2001, and while it was updated for the 3DS, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is a much more visually striking game. It features a unique art style, almost like toys or clay figures, that’s incredibly impressive and could make it the most beautiful game in the entire Dragon Quest series.
Combat happens in turns, and your characters can choose different job classes, called Vocations. This version of the game lets you assign two Vocations to each character, which is new! This allows for a lot of unique character builds, and you can also solve the game’s time-based puzzles in any order you like, adding another layer of personalization.
Voidling Bound
Splicing Monsters
- Developer: Hatchery Games
- Publisher: Hatchery Games
- Planned Release Date: Q1 2026
- Planned Systems: PC
Lots of games try to be like Pokémon, but few let you actually design your own creatures. Voidling Bound fills that gap with a unique system. You play as an explorer and scientist, gathering materials in the world and then using them back at your lab to build your own custom monsters.
Okay, so this game does something really cool – instead of just having monsters fight with you, you actually control them directly in battles! It’s real-time combat, which is awesome. I’ve seen some of the monster designs, and they’re definitely not going for the typical ‘cute’ look you see in other monster-catching games. They’re a bit more…realistic and even a little creepy! Honestly, I think that’s a good thing – it might bring in players who aren’t usually into that style of game, and that could be huge for them.
Pokemon Pokopia
Ditto Becomes A Trainer
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: Nintendo Switch 2
There are many unusual Pokémon spin-off games, such as Pokémon Conquest, which is a strategy game set in feudal Japan. Pokémon Pokopia seems even more unique – you play as a Ditto who’s lost its trainer and decides to become human.
This game lets you live a virtual life where you become friends with Pokémon and work with them to build and farm the land. Different Pokémon have different skills – for example, Bulbasaur can help with planting, and Squirtle can water crops. It’s a relaxing game that combines the fun of Pokémon with the building and crafting elements of games like Minecraft.
Palworld: Palfarm
A More Focused Palworld
- Planned Release Date: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC
Even though Palworld is still under development, its creator, Pocketpair, is already planning a new game called Palworld: Palfarm. This spinoff will be a top-down version of Palworld with a greater emphasis on relaxing life simulation gameplay.
In this game, you’ll be able to develop your own town, gather resources by hunting, farming, and fishing, and even find a partner to marry. It will also feature online multiplayer, and you’ll still be able to catch monsters. While there will be battles, the details of the combat system are still being worked out, as the game was just recently announced.
Animula Nook
Grounded Crossing
- Developer: LilliLandia Games
- Publisher: LilliLandia Games
- Planned Release Date: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch 2
Animula Nook features a beautiful art style reminiscent of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, with characters that look incredibly detailed. It’s visually similar to a blend of Grounded and Animal Crossing. Players take on the role of small characters who build a town on a tabletop inside a house. They’ll also explore beyond the house to gather resources needed for crafting.
Animula Nook appears to be a charming game with a blend of open-world exploration and cozy activities. Players can expect to travel in unique ways, like floating down rivers in teacups, and enjoy town-building, character customization, and musical interactions with the game’s inhabitants. Best of all, it will be free to play when it launches! The only question currently is whether it will be available on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
Chrono Odyssey
Rewinding Your Potential
- Planned Release Date: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
If you’re searching for a highly customizable game beyond typical life simulations, Chrono Odyssey is definitely worth checking out. It’s a massive, open-world MMORPG where you can create a unique character and embark on adventures – either solo or with friends – including challenging raids and other missions.
Beyond all that, there’s a lot to do in the game – you can fish, mine, chop wood, farm, make things, and more. But the most exciting part is probably the combat. Players can actually pause and even rewind time during battles! Time control is an amazing power to have in a game, and if you want to experience real control, you should definitely try this game when it comes out.
