Hogwarts Legacy was the first video game to explore the wizarding world of Harry Potter in a completely new way, moving beyond the familiar Quidditch sports games. However, it wasn’t the first Harry Potter game to use the role-playing game (RPG) format. Earlier RPGs based on the series appeared on the Game Boy Color (Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) and Game Boy Advance (Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), though those were turn-based.
With the huge success of Hogwarts Legacy, it’s likely we’ll see a sequel eventually. In the meantime, fans of the game might enjoy checking out other upcoming titles that share similar elements – things like expansive open worlds, school environments, and characters with magical abilities. While these games won’t be exactly the same, they could offer a comparable experience.
Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road
The OG Quidditch
- Planned Release Date: 11/13/25
- Planned Systems: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S
Don’t expect a magical school like in Hogwarts Legacy – Inazuma Eleven: Victory Road is a soccer game, though it does include special abilities. If you enjoy the sports aspect of Hogwarts Legacy, you might like this game, as soccer was popular before wizarding sports!
I’m really excited about how they’re handling the school part of the game – you can actually build friendships with other characters and get them to join your team! The battles are happening live, which is awesome, but it sounds like they’ll pause briefly so you have time to think about what skills to use. Honestly, this looks like it could be one of the most over-the-top and exciting games Level-5 has ever made!
Demonschool
Persona X Final Fantasy Tactics
- Planned Release Date: 11/19/26
- Planned Systems: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S
Demonschool clearly takes inspiration from games like Persona, with its focus on school life, and Final Fantasy Tactics, as battles are fought on a grid. Players will navigate the school and its surroundings using a simple menu system and engage in meaningful conversations with both their teammates and other characters.
Battles take place in compact arenas, making them quicker than in many other tactical RPGs. This game would be ideal for handheld devices like the Switch or Steam Deck, and players who enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy might also like its magical themes, school environment, and use of dark powers.
Kingdom Of Night
The 80s Are Calling
- Developer: Friends of Safety
- Publishers: DANGEN Entertainment, Game Source Entertainment
- Planned Release Date: Q4 2025
- Planned Systems: PC
Kingdom of Night is a game where you play as a teenager at school when unexpected events unfold. The game is set in the 1980s and lets you pick a class for your character, like a traditional RPG. Players who enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy might be interested in the Necromancer and Sorcerer classes, which focus on magic.
As you play, you’ll unlock new skills and spells, and combine them with runes for powerful effects. While it appears to be a straightforward action RPG viewed from above, its interesting class system and nostalgic 80s school environment make it a game worth keeping an eye on.
Witchbrook
Hogwarts, But Tiny
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: PC, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X
Witchbrook appears to be exactly what many fans of Hogwarts Legacy are hoping for, especially if they enjoy the idea of attending a school for magic. The game features a charming world where players can explore both the town and school grounds using fun transportation options like broomsticks and scooters.
In Witchbrook, players can take classes to learn spells and build friendships. The game will also feature online co-op for up to four players. While the extent of spellcasting and combat is still unknown, Witchbrook appears to be a charming life simulation game, similar to Stardew Valley, but with a magical twist.
Wizard Cats
Hundreds Of Spells To Master
- Developer: BigFrogg Studios
- Publisher: BigFrogg Studios
- Planned Release Date: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC
If you’re looking for a charming and engaging roguelike with plenty of combat options, Wizard Cats is a great choice. Like Hogwarts Legacy, learning spells is a key part of the experience, but Wizard Cats promises almost endless possibilities for crafting new spells during each playthrough. If they deliver on that promise, every attempt will feel fresh and exciting.
This game is played from a bird’s-eye view and has a bright, colorful style reminiscent of a strategy RPG. However, instead of strict battles, you can explore dungeons at your own pace, looking for loot and monsters. And let’s be honest, who wouldn’t enjoy playing as a happy, well-fed cat?
Persona 4 Revival
A Classic Reborn
- Planned Release Date: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X
Persona 4 originally came out for the PS2 in 2008, and it’s been re-released on other platforms a few times. However, Persona 4 Revival is a much more substantial update – it’s a complete remake, similar in scope to Persona 3 Reload. Although we haven’t seen much of it yet, the original game was so well-loved that this remake is almost guaranteed to be a hit.
Those familiar with the series will find a familiar story: a group of Japanese high school students investigating a string of murders in their town. They have a unique ability to enter a world inside televisions, where they team up with and battle demons. Balancing school life with nighttime monster hunting creates a compelling gameplay experience. While not as expansive as Hogwarts Legacy, Persona 4 remains a beloved classic and a highlight of the Persona franchise.
Project Bloomwalker
A Studio Ghibli Challenger
- Developer: Netmarble Neo
- Publisher: Netmarble
- Planned Release Date: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC and Xbox
It seems like Project Bloomwalker is still quite a ways from being released – titles with the word “Project” often indicate a game is early in development. However, it’s worth watching, even though it doesn’t have an official page on Steam or Xbox yet. The game’s art style is strongly influenced by Studio Ghibli, particularly the film Howl’s Moving Castle.
In Project Bloomwalker, players journey the world with a portable alchemy workshop, establishing businesses in various locations. While the extent of alchemy, magic, and whether the game focuses on life simulation or magical battles is still unclear, the game’s beautiful visuals are already attracting fans of titles like Hogwarts Legacy and the films of Studio Ghibli.
