The forthcoming farming simulation titled “Starsand Island” unveiled a fresh trailer during PlayStation’s Gamescom 2025 showcase, and it’s reminiscent of the beloved game Stardew Valley. With many farm-life games now resembling Stardew, the impact of ConcernedApe’s indie life sim on this new release is palpable – from the title to its mechanics. However, Starsand Island brings more than just emulating a popular trend.
In Spring 2024, the first trailer was unveiled for “Starsand Island”, featuring scenes of the main character preparing meals, tending farms, and unwinding in a captivating coastal town. Later, developers revealed that players would not only be able to cook, farm, and relax, but also fish, personalize their homes, traverse wild surroundings, and engage with around forty NPCs. The Kickstarter campaign was a hit, and now “Starsand Island” is preparing for a console launch as well as a Steam release.
Starsand Island Lets Players Farm, Fish, and Ride an Ostrich
2025’s Gamescom trailer for “Starsand Island,” by PlayStation, delved deeper into the gameplay, revealing its farming mechanics alongside intriguing additions like the option to ride various atypical creatures such as an ostrich. The resemblance to “Stardew Valley” is evident with its grid-style farm system, customizable homes, interactions with NPCs, and a playable arcade machine within the game itself. Seed Lab, the developer of “Starsand Island,” openly acknowledged “Stardew Valley” as a significant source of inspiration on their Kickstarter campaign. This alignment is fitting considering that “Stardew Valley” played a crucial role in establishing farming simulators as a popular genre.
In addition to being likened to Stardew Valley, Starsand Island shares similarities with Studio Ghibli films due to its watercolor-styled anime art and setting within a quaint coastal town. As stated on its Steam page, this town will be populated by numerous NPCs, whose tales and relationships develop in response to the player’s interactions. Each character has their own “affection path,” which advances their romantic, professional, and other narratives based on the player’s actions. These characters react differently as the story unfolds.

According to the Gamescom trailer, it appears that Starsand Island offers a wide array of customization options. The video showcases various clothing choices for both player characters and pets, as well as a feature to decorate fish tanks and what seems like a customizable houseboat docked at the pier. Although there’s no confirmed release date yet, Starsand Island is planning to launch in Q4 2025, so it might not be too long before we can dive into this personalized gaming world.
