A new game on the PlayStation Store closely resembles the popular Nintendo series *Animal Crossing*. It not only shares a very similar visual style, but its description is almost identical to that of *Animal Crossing: New Horizons*.
It’s become increasingly common to find games online that are very similar to popular titles. Some are blatant copies with almost nothing in common besides the name, while others closely mimic the original gameplay. In both cases, these developers usually aim to attract players who might mistake their game for the real one.
Animal Crossing-Like PS5 Game Appears Online
A new game called *Anime Village Online* has been released on the PlayStation Store, and it’s drawing attention for its strong resemblance to *Animal Crossing*. Both the game’s image – which features a cartoon girl jumping in a landscape of hills and trees – and its description are very similar to *Animal Crossing*. The game promises a single-player or co-op experience for up to 10 players, focusing on building, decorating, farming, and fishing, with cross-platform multiplayer planned for its 2027 release. This isn’t the first time this has happened, however; another similar game, *Anime Life Sim*, was removed from the PlayStation Store earlier this year after being identified as a copycat.

There haven’t been any other updates about the game, but some research uncovered that the listed developer, Wisnu Sudirman, has another game on the PlayStation Store called *Rooted: Survival*. It’s a post-apocalyptic survival game where humanity struggles after a biological warfare event. The game’s only image strongly resembles *The Last of Us*, showing overgrown cityscapes. Interestingly, the store listing actually mentions *The Last of Us*, suggesting fans of that game might enjoy *Rooted: Survival*, while also clarifying that it doesn’t intend to copy the other game.

Although the visual resemblance to *Rooted: Survival* could be due to the use of pre-made assets from Unreal Engine, *Anime Village Online* doesn’t have the same explanation. Given its strong similarities to Nintendo’s hugely popular *Animal Crossing* series, and Nintendo’s history of aggressively protecting its intellectual property, it seems doubtful the game will launch in its current form.
