2025 delivered some fantastic high-quality games across a variety of styles. Ghost of Yotei was a captivating open-world adventure featuring exciting samurai combat and a rich storyline. Donkey Kong Bananza marked a triumphant return for DK, and is arguably his best game yet, packed with enemies and destructible environments.
Battlefield 6 revitalized the series with a strong multiplayer experience, and overall, 2025 was a fantastic year for gaming. Now, as 2025 comes to a close, we’re looking ahead to 2026, which promises even more impressive games. The upcoming releases are expected to be a huge hit with both critics and players.
Resident Evil Requiem
Back To Raccoon City
- Planned Release Date: 2/27/26
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
Resident Evil Requiem is the ninth major installment in the Resident Evil series and marks a return to the iconic Raccoon City after a long absence. With the game’s release date nearing, many details remain a mystery, including whether fan-favorite Leon S. Kennedy will join the new protagonist, Grace, in the story.
Similar to the start of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, this game appears to focus more on puzzles and creating a scary atmosphere. Grace doesn’t seem to have many options for fighting, but whether it’s primarily a suspenseful experience or an action-packed horror game, fans should be thrilled when it releases next February.
Crimson Desert
Could Rival Skyrim
- Planned Release Date: 3/19/26
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
Crimson Desert is shaping up to be a strong contender for one of the best open-world games of 2026, boasting an impressive number of features. While it generally plays like a fantasy action RPG, it sets itself apart with sci-fi elements such as mechanical dragons, robots, and firearms.
Players have incredible freedom to travel the world, whether by horseback, climbing, riding dragons, or gliding with a parasol. They’ll also face massive bosses they can climb onto, use powerful abilities like telekinetically stopping bullets or lifting heavy objects, and discover many other exciting features.
007 First Light
Bond Meets Uncharted
- Planned Release Date: 3/27/26
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S
It’s been a while since a new James Bond game was released, and 007 First Light is a fresh take on the series. The game features a younger, inexperienced Bond who is eager to prove his skills, leading to exciting and potentially reckless situations and over-the-top action.
Players will have multiple ways to complete missions, blending stealth and action—similar to the Hitman games, which were created by the same team. The game appears to be a story-driven experience with exciting, over-the-top moments, much like the Uncharted series. That’s great news for fans of single-player adventures, as it’s been a while since we’ve seen a new Uncharted game, and James Bond offers a thrilling alternative.
Grand Theft Auto 6
Vice City Calls
- Planned Release Date: 5/26/26
- Planned Systems: PS5 and Xbox Series X/S
Fans are already excited about Grand Theft Auto 6, so another trailer isn’t really necessary. While questions remain about things like which characters we’ll play as and how big the game world will be, this mystery is actually building even more anticipation.
The trailers have revealed a wide range of locations players will be able to visit, like Vice City, swamps, and a National Park. There’s also plenty to do – you can play golf, box, shoot pool, go kayaking, and much more. With all this, the game is almost certain to be the best-selling title of 2026. It really speaks for itself.
Marvel’s Wolverine
Too Many Marvel Games
- Planned Release Date: Fall 2026
- Planned Systems: PS5
After a long development period, Marvel’s Wolverine is nearing release. The initial trailer suggests a fairly straightforward adventure, though it appears there will be some areas to explore. This is a different approach than Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, which are known for their expansive open worlds. However, a more focused story and gameplay experience could be a welcome change.
Not every Marvel game needs a huge open world, and Insomniac clearly understands what makes the character compelling – plenty of action and intensity. Two other promising Marvel games, Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, are also potentially releasing in 2026, meaning Wolverine will face some stiff competition when it arrives.
Onimusha: Way Of The Sword
Capcom’s Other Horror Masterpiece
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
As a long-time fan, I’m so hyped for Onimusha: Way of the Sword! It’s been twenty years since we’ve gotten a real Onimusha sequel, and it’s finally coming out in 2026. From what I’ve seen, the combat is way more challenging and intense than before – it almost feels like a Souls-like game with its parrying and the huge, scary enemies you face.
The game seems more intense and grim, but it still manages to be funny, featuring over-the-top demons and a hero who isn’t your usual charming protagonist. With this game and Resident Evil Requiem, Capcom is poised to dominate the horror genre in 2026.
The Blood Of Dawnwalker
The Witcher, Reborn
- Planned Release Date: 2026
- Planned Systems: PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S
Currently in development, The Blood of Dawnwalker is being created by some of the same talented people who made The Witcher games – even a director from The Witcher 3! If you enjoyed that series, you can look forward to similar fast-paced combat – a mix of swordplay and magic – alongside a story that lets you make choices and features high-quality writing.
So, I’m playing this new game where I just turned into a vampire, which is awesome! But here’s the cool part: I can choose to be a total monster and feed on people, or actually use my powers to help people. It’s got a day/night cycle, and things get way more intense at night – my vampiric abilities are seriously boosted when it’s dark. I can walk on walls, unlock new powers as I play, and take on all sorts of quests. It’s a really cool gothic open-world adventure I’m super excited about!
Clockwork Revolution
Steampunk To The Future
- Planned Release Date: TBA
- Planned Systems: PC and Xbox Series X
The game Clockwork Revolution recently revealed a detailed trailer, highlighting its key features. The most exciting aspect appears to be its time manipulation mechanic, which allows both players and enemies to alter the course of events in the game’s city.
The game blends role-playing elements with fast-paced first-person shooting, offering players plenty of quests, ways to personalize their characters, and a variety of weapons. While it’s unlikely to be released before 2026, there’s hope it will launch a major new series for Xbox.
