Valheim Player Visits Mountains and Instantly Regrets It

Okay, so this is awful. I just spawned into the Mountains in Valheim, and literally within seconds, a wolf raid started! Seriously, talk about a terrible first impression. That biome is already brutal, but starting with a raid? Ouch. Definitely one of the worst welcomes I’ve ever had in a game.

In Valheim, players will occasionally face large groups of enemies attacking them – these are often called “raids” by the community. Most raids happen when you’re near your base, with creatures attempting to destroy your structures. The wolf raid is unique, however, as it can start anywhere on the map after you’ve unlocked it. You unlock this raid after defeating the Bonemass boss and exploring either the Plains or, more frequently, the Mountains.

Unlucky Valheim Player Gets Hunted Within Seconds of Visiting the Mountains

The challenging wolf raid in the game Valheim usually starts after players have spent a good amount of time exploring the Mountains. However, one player, Millelys, recently had an incredibly unlucky experience, triggering the raid less than a minute after entering the biome. This followed a tough fight with a single wolf near the mountain’s base – a common occurrence when using weaker gear against the Mountain enemies. Barely surviving that encounter, Millelys immediately received the warning that they were being hunted, and then found themselves facing four more aggressive wolves, making them wish they hadn’t ventured into the Mountains at all.

The player was quickly defeated by a large group of wolves, a tough welcome to the new area. Things could have been worse, though – if Millelys hadn’t started running when they saw the wolves, they would have been killed further up the mountain, making it much harder to recover their items. The video of this unfortunate encounter quickly gained over 1,700 upvotes and appeared on the front page of the game’s main subreddit just hours after being posted in January 2026. It also generated over 300 comments, with many Valheim players agreeing that being attacked by wolves so soon after arriving was incredibly unlucky.

Okay, so I was watching Millelys play Valheim, and it was kinda frustrating because they made the Mountain area way harder on themselves. I noticed right away they hadn’t prepped with the best food – they were still using beginner stuff even after beating Bonemass! They’d spent ages in the Swamp, so they could have made food that would’ve given them way more health, but they were only at a little over 100 HP. Honestly, even with three times that health, surviving a wolf attack in the Mountains really needs some solid gear, and they just weren’t equipped well enough.

How To Deal With Valheim’s Wolf Raid

When defending against wolf attacks in Valheim, your main goal should be to avoid getting surrounded and to control the angles from which they can attack. Wolves attack quickly and can easily defeat even players with good gear. The Bonemass Forsaken power is especially helpful, as it significantly increases your resistance to physical damage and makes blocking much easier. It lasts for 300 seconds – well over the length of most wolf raids.

After you get used to managing your energy, the best way to defeat a wolf pack is with attacks that hit multiple enemies at once, such as the Atgeir spin, Stagbreaker slam, or Ooze bombs. Wolves usually run straight at you, so you might be able to briefly escape to a safe spot and use ranged attacks, but this isn’t very dependable. It’s usually better to learn how to fight them up close. Once you’re skilled, dealing with wolf packs becomes a fast and simple way to get meat and fur, and experienced players might even welcome these encounters.
