As a seasoned Valorant enthusiast who’s been following this game since its inception, I must say the upcoming playoffs are shaping up to be a thrilling spectacle! With a prize pool of $2 million and the coveted $1 million champion title up for grabs, every match promises tension, strategy, and unparalleled skill.
With the group stage completed, eight teams in Seoul have moved forward to the playoff round of this year’s Valorant Champions tournament. A total of over $2 million is still up for grabs, and among these eight teams, only one will be crowned the victor and receive a monumental prize of $1 million.
In the previous year, Evil Geniuses clinched the top prize at an event in Los Angeles, with Paper Rex coming in second. However, neither team will have a chance to defend their title or seek redemption, as Evil Geniuses did not qualify for this year’s Valorant Champions, and Paper Rex was eliminated from the tournament by EDG.
Valorant Champions Playoffs Schedule
In the playoffs, there are four significant matches that kick off the competition. This tournament follows a double elimination format, implying that each initial team gets two opportunities to lose before being knocked out of the contest – first in the upper bracket and subsequently in the lower bracket.
Here are the opening fixtures for the Valorant Champs playoffs stage:
- DRX vs. Sentinels (August 14)
- Trace Esports vs. EDward Gaming (August 14)
- G2 Esports vs. Leviatán (August 15)
- Team Heretics vs. Fnatic (August 15)
Currently, the competition for the top prize is wide open, but at this point, DRX and Sentinels are leading the pack. The advantage of playing on home ground seems to have benefited DRX significantly during the group stage, as they were among the four teams that didn’t lose a single match.
Increasingly, supporters are rallying behind the less favored Trace Esports team, a Chinese organization that recently stunned Leviatán with their victorious performance earlier this week, securing them a place in the Valorant Champs playoffs for the very first time.
I’m supporting Fnatic, the UK-based team that recently marked its 20th anniversary. Just a few weeks ago, they won a $100,000 prize at the EMEA Stage 2 tournament, and last year, they finished second at Valorant Champs 2023 after triumphing at VCT Masters Tokyo.
