VALORANT Star Derke Pulls Off Sensational Fake Yoru Clone Play

In a crucial VALORANT match that determined qualification for the initial Masters tournament of the year, standout player Nikita “Derke” Sirmitev executed an unusually daring move from their playbook. Remarkably, this risky maneuver paid off, leaving his adversaries red-faced and securing a place for his team at the Masters event.

Derke Does The Unthinkable

In the ultimate match of the VCT EMEA Kickoff, Vitality and Team Heretics faced off, vying for one of the two spots at Masters Bangkok. To defeat Heretics, a team that has reached the grand finals twice in international events in 2024, Vitality would need to display exceptional self-assurance.

In the latest season, Derke, previously from Fnatic and now playing for Vitality, demonstrated an abundance of self-assurance by deceiving Heretics with a trick involving Yoru’s decoy. Normally, when a player uses Yoru’s Fakeout ability, they create a clone that flashes enemies upon being shot. Consequently, opponents usually disregard the straight-marching clone as harmless. However, Derke cleverly deviated from this norm.

Regrettably for Heretics, it wasn’t Derke’s duplicate who appeared on the scene, but rather Derke disguised as his clone. To add insult to injury, Heretics’ Ričardas “Boo” Lukaševičius transported next to Derke just before he turned, earning him an extra kill. This move is occasionally seen during streams and possibly in ranked games, but never on a stage as grandiose as this one. The play not only boosted Vitality’s score but also granted them a bonus round win, securing three rounds consecutively on Haven, even though they hadn’t fully purchased. In the end, Vitality triumphed on Haven and then masterfully overpowered Heretics’ map pick of Abyss, clinching the series and the Masters spot with authority.
