VALORANT Star Receives Warning for Gambling on Worlds Final

As a long-time fan of Benjyfishy and Team Heretics, I must admit that this latest development has left me with a mixed bag of emotions. On one hand, it’s always disappointing to see someone you admire get into trouble, even if it’s for something as seemingly innocuous as a bet. But on the other hand, I appreciate Benjyfishy’s honesty in self-reporting the incident and his willingness to make amends by donating to charity.

As a passionate fan, I’m sharing that Benjamin “Benjyfishy” Fish, one of Team Heretics’ VALORANT standouts, has received a warning from Riot Games due to an infraction concerning gambling. In the heat of the League of Legends World Championship final between T1 and Bilibili Gaming, this ex-Fortnite pro made and won a bet, which led to this issue under the Global Code of Conduct’s gambling regulations.

Approximately two weeks prior to the commencement of betting sponsorships, the decision by Riot was formally announced.

You win some, you lose some

As per a declaration posted on Riot’s Competitive Ops site on November 28th, Team Heretics notified Riot in early November that player benjyfishy had successfully placed and won a bet on the Worlds final, pocketing €100 as a result.

Making that bet goes against Rule 3.15 of the Global Code of Conduct, which clearly prohibits esports professionals from participating in any form of betting on games owned by Riot, whether it’s legal or not.

In their decision, Riot cited multiple reasons that led to a lighter penalty for Benjyfishy. After recognizing his actions, he openly reported the incident and fully assisted with the investigation. The judgment also acknowledges that he offered to make a charitable donation. Furthermore, since benjyfishy bet on a game outside of their usual competition area, there was minimal potential for impacting VALORANT’s competitive honesty directly.

In a surprising turn of events, Team Heretics received a warning and was fined an undisclosed sum by Riot, following some unspecified infringement. Interestingly, it was recently announced by Riot to TopMob that teams associated with VALORANT and League of Legends can now enter into partnerships with betting firms. However, these partners will not be allowed to advertise on Riot’s broadcast or team uniforms. Additionally, all potential partners must undergo vetting by Riot before being approved.
