Valve Finally Lists Deadlock on Steam, But You Still Can’t Get Easy Access

As someone who’s been following Valve’s every move since the early days of Counter-Strike and Half-Life, this latest development with Deadlock has me both intrigued and bemused. The fact that Valve, the enigmatic giant of the gaming world, is finally acknowledging Deadlock, albeit in a subtle way, is akin to spotting Bigfoot in your backyard – you’re excited, but also left wondering why it took so long!

For several weeks, multitudes of gamers have been delving into Deadlock, a fresh competitive shooting game created by Valve Corporation. Although the company had previously remained tight-lipped about the game, they’ve now subtly associated themselves with it. This association was made evident when Valve published a Steam listing that identifies them as both the developer and publisher of Deadlock, the hero shooter.

Apart from this, an announcement from an administrator was made on the official Discord server of the game, informing both live streamers and deep dive players participating in the closed beta test about the current status of the game.

Kept You Waiting, Huh?

Steam, the gaming platform, has posted a listing for a fresh competitive shooter game called Deadlock, which features hero elements and has garnered quite a buzz. Over the past few weeks, the game has managed to attract tens of thousands of players, reaching a peak concurrent user count of over 40,000 – a figure that surpasses some recently launched shooters.

Beyond a short animated preview, the Steam page for Deadlock doesn’t offer much new information. It lacks detailed tech specs and promotional details, resulting in a rather ‘unimpressive’ or ‘lacking’ reveal by Valve.

Below is a new announcement made by the administrators of our Discord server, following the recent escalation from Valve:

In simpler terms, we’re easing the restrictions on discussing Deadlock, enabling activities such as live streaming, creating community sites, and engaging in discussions. However, please note that our current status remains invite-only and we continue to be in an early development phase. This means you’ll still find plenty of temporary artwork and experimental gameplay.

Currently, even though there’s a Steam listing for Deadlock, you can only play it if you receive an invitation from someone who is already participating in its testing. This might alter in the near future.
