Valve Introducing New Changes To Steam Store Pages

As a dedicated Steam gamer, I’m thrilled to let you know that Valve is gearing up to roll out some fresh updates to our beloved store pages. These changes are designed to enhance our gaming experience across various aspects.

Initially available as a Beta version before wider release, the Steam store pages are set to expand up to 1200 pixels in width, thereby enlarging the viewing area for users. The primary content column that appears when visiting a page will see its maximum width increase from 616 pixels to 780 pixels.

Valve stated on their website that this enhancement significantly enhances the shopping experience by offering larger images and trailers, providing ample space to elucidate product features in the description section. They also assured that the page will automatically adjust for smaller screens or browsers.

Speaking of the description area, Valve is also making changes there on Steam store pages.

For quite some time now, pages have been accommodating .gif files, but the company is now moving forward to accommodate both .mp4 and .webm files as well. This expansion will enable developers, according to Valve, to more effectively showcase their features, illustrate particular game mechanics, or simply enhance the visual appeal of their store page with added flair.

The newly introduced file types come with certain limitations, including having a maximum file size of 100MB and lasting no longer than 12 seconds.

Valve assures that you don’t need to fret over specific compression or quality settings because their Steamworks backend will convert your videos into a high-quality, lightweight format suitable for desktop, Steam Deck, and the Steam mobile app displays.

According to Valve, the changes on Steam store pages are expected to be in beta testing for roughly a few weeks, assuming everything proceeds smoothly. The intention is to provide developers ample time to add any fresh content if needed, prior to transitioning these updates into a permanent, public version accessible by all users.
