Vampire Survivors’ Ode to Castlevania Should Be Just The Tip of the Iceberg

Vampire Survivors' Ode to Castlevania Should Be Just The Tip of the Iceberg

As a self-proclaimed connoisseur of all things vampiric and survival-based, I must say that the recent collaboration between Vampire Survivors and Castlevania has truly struck a chord within me. The Ode to Castlevania DLC has been nothing short of a revelation, offering an abundance of fresh content that has only served to further enrich my gaming experience.

After a relatively subdued early access launch in December 2021, the game titled “Vampire Survivors” saw its full release on PC in October 2022, quickly gaining massive popularity. Despite a year filled with impressive Indie games, it was “Vampire Survivors” that captured the spotlight due to its engaging gameplay mechanics, steady advancement, and numerous unlockable characters and modifiers. This was just the start of the journey for “Vampire Survivors“.

For the past two years, developer Poncle has been expanding the game “Vampire Survivors” with new characters, weapons, and stages. This expansion has come in both free and paid DLC, occasionally collaborating with other games such as “Contra” and “Among Us”. However, these collaborations are minor compared to the latest “Vampire Survivors” crossover DLC, titled “Ode to Castlevania”. This new expansion offers more content than any previous DLC, introducing over 20 characters, over 40 weapons, and the largest game stage yet, all for just a few dollars. For avid fans, this is a feast of new content to explore, but it’s only the start of the game’s planned vampire crossovers.

Other Vampire Games Vampire Survivors Should Collaborate With

Vampyr

Released in June 2018, Vampyr, differing notably from Dontnod Entertainment’s previous work, Life is Strange, presents an intriguing narrative. In Vampyr, players assume the identity of Dr. Jonathan E. Reid, a man who has recently returned to London following the First World War, only to discover he has been transformed into a vampire. The unique selling point of Vampyr lies in its morality system seamlessly integrated within gameplay. Players can enhance their combat skills substantially by consuming human blood, but they can finish the game without causing any harm if they rely on their detective skills and stealth instead.

Initially, the game “Vampyr” received a mix of positive and negative responses when it was first launched. However, over the past six years, it has garnered a lot of appreciation, with many considering it a secret gem in its genre. It would be exciting if Jonathan E. Reid, the protagonist from “Vampyr”, could make an appearance in “Vampire Survivors” as part of a future crossover DLC expansion. Perhaps they could also introduce a stage that resembles early 1900s London for an immersive gaming experience.

Vampire: The Masquerade

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been captivated by the rich lore of Vampire: The Masquerade since its inception as a tabletop role-playing game in 1991. This franchise has earned a reputation as one of the finest vampire sagas in gaming. The first video game adaptation, Vampire: The Masquerade – Redemption in 2000, received a rather divided response from critics. However, its successor, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines in 2004, significantly outshone its predecessor, establishing new benchmarks for storytelling through choices and expanding the boundaries of what an RPG could offer.

As a gaming enthusiast with a deep love for the supernatural, I can’t help but ponder about the potential of a crossover between two of my favorite games: “Vampire: The Masquerade” and “Vampire Survivors”. While the former may not hold the same level of influence it once did, its dedicated fanbase remains strong. Imagine, if you will, a DLC that seamlessly blends these two worlds!

El Paso, Elsewhere

Still regarded as one of last year’s most overlooked Indie games, El Paso, Elsewhere is a Max Payne-inspired third-person shooter that sees players take control of a vampire hunter named James Savage as he tries to track down his vampiric ex who wants to end the world. The high-octane action of El Paso, Elsewhere would lend itself well to a fast-paced game like Vampire Survivors, making it a great choice for a future collab.
