One actor from the “Daredevil: Born Again” cast recently discussed their character within the Marvel universe. They hinted that their role might primarily focus on television series rather than making appearances in MCU films.

The recently premiered Disney Plus series “Daredevil: Born Again” has been a big success, following on from Netflix’s previous “Daredevil” with many original cast members returning, such as Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, and Elden Henson as Franklin “Foggy” Nelson. Notably, Daredevil is a well-known partner of Spider-Man, and they often face common adversaries like The Punisher, Kingpin, Bullseye, Mr. Fear, The Hand, among others. Some fans are eagerly anticipating these antagonists might feature in Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Nevertheless, one actor has dashed spectator’s dreams of a potential appearance in an MCU film by stating it seems highly improbable.

Recently, I had an engaging conversation with Josh Horowitz on his podcast “Happy Sad Confused.” We delved into the excitement surrounding Marvel Studios’ casting announcements for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Josh confessed to compulsively refreshing the announcement every 10 minutes in hopes of spotting my name. Alas, I wasn’t on the list, but given my character Kingpin’s connections with Spider-Man, he speculated if there was a slim chance I might appear in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” However, my response regarding this possibility didn’t exactly light up his expectations. I mentioned that it wasn’t looking likely at the moment.

What I am certain about isn’t favorable. To be honest, it’s quite challenging to incorporate my character into an MCU film. The reason being, the use of my character by Marvel is complicated due to ownership issues and such. As of now, I seem to be more suitable for television series.

Don’t Look For Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin On The Big Screen Anytime Soon

D’Onofrio mentioned that he might show up in various types of series but not a standalone film, and the reason for this is currently tied up in rights matters. He didn’t provide an estimate as to when this issue would be resolved. Regarding his role, whether it’s a series or movie, D’Onofrio stated he’d give his best because that’s his responsibility as an actor. Sony holds the rights for Spider-Man movies and related content, which is why Marvel Entertainment can’t use any of the characters from the Spider-Verse in MCU films without Sony’s consent. The unique agreement between Sony and Marvel Studios is responsible for their involvement in Holland’s Spidey movies and the character’s appearance in MCU films. This isn’t the first time a potential crossover involving Spider-Man and another character from the Spider-Verse has been prevented due to rights issues. Tom Hardy recently disclosed that his character, Venom, was initially intended for a project with Holland’s Spider-Man, but it was canceled because of “studio politics.

D’Onofrio’s statement was straightforward: it’s unlikely that Kingpin will show up in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” as the situation stands now, but things might change if Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios reach an agreement. Back in 1999, the movie rights for Spider-Man and related characters were sold to Sony Pictures because of a financial crisis at Marvel. Now, Sony is developing its own universe featuring villains and allies from Spider-Man’s world, such as Venom, Morbius, Madame Web, and Kraven the Hunter. Fans may hope for Kingpin in an MCU film, but since decisions involve two companies, it’s not a simple matter. However, with collaboration between Sony and Marvel Studios, characters like Kingpin could be introduced into upcoming Spider-Man films or even other MCU productions, which would delight fans and potentially benefit both studios. Notably, Sony’s superhero movies haven’t been as successful as the MCU’s, so they might consider lending characters to Marvel Studios for a boost.

Daredevil: Born Again streams on Disney Plus.
