Vitality Stuns Spirit 3-0 in Grand Finals of IEM Katowice

In an unexpected turn of events at IEM Katowice 2025, underdogs Team Vitality clinched the championship title, outplaying top-seeded Team Spirit in a dominating 3-0 series. This victory marks Vitality’s first major trophy since their triumph at IEM Cologne 2024 and their first significant title since they brought on board former FaZe star, Robin “ropz” Kool.

Spirit Fails to Defend Katowice Title

Energy started strongly, snatching Dust2’s initial map selection from Spirit. Robin “ropz” Kool played exceptionally well on this map since joining the team, accumulating a remarkable 26 kills compared to just 9 deaths, and excelling particularly in the second half on the attacking side. On Nuke, it was Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut who shone brightly, earning 26 kills with only 6 deaths, and this was achieved largely without relying heavily on his AWP, which he was previously known for.

On Mirage, Vitality maintained their lead during half-time for the third consecutive map. Spirit faltered in their sixth pistol round to initiate the second half, having lost every pistol round throughout the series. Facing a 11-4 deficit and cornered, Spirit unexpectedly revived in the second half by claiming seven rounds consecutively, tying the game. Vitality managed to reach 12 points, largely due to Shahar “flameZ” Shushan’s efforts. In the decisive regulation round, flameZ was instrumental once more, sealing the map victory, the series win, and the championship.

* Vitality has finally managed to claim the trophy in Katowice after multiple attempts spanning over more than a few years. Their captain, Dan “apEX” Madesclaire, hadn’t previously triumphed in Katowice during the tournament’s 11-year run until today. Meanwhile, ZywOo shares the record for most MVP awards with the legendary Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev, each having won 21.*
