The creators of Just Dance VR, Soul Assembly, have recently reduced their workforce by 15% in a round of layoffs affecting various departments such as animation, marketing, quality assurance, and others, as reported initially by UploadVR.
David Solari, CEO of Soul Assembly, explained to UploadVR that this action was taken to make sure our studio meets the demands of our upcoming ventures. We’re assisting the team members affected by these changes as they move towards new prospects, and we appreciate their hard work. This measure was crucial for the company’s future growth amidst a tough period in the gaming sector.
The company hasn’t specified exactly how many employees were let go, but with the current staff count at 72 in 2023 and plans to reach over 100 by 2024, it seems they may have terminated between 11 to 20 employees if their goal was achieved. TopMob is seeking clarification on the exact number of individuals affected and will update this report if a response is received.
As a gamer, I’ve noticed that this year, 2025, seems to be a tough one for the gaming industry. So far, it’s my 11th company that’s been hit by layoffs, following nearly 16,000 known job losses in 2024. Just in the first 16 days of 2025, we’re estimating over 200 jobs have vanished. It’s a challenging time for us all in the gaming world.
Besides Just Dance VR, Soul Assembly is also responsible for creating titles like Warhammer 40K: Battle Sister, Last Stand, and the Drop Dead series.
