VR shooter Action Hero release date announced

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for cinematic adventures, I can hardly contain my excitement for Fast Travel Games’ upcoming VR shooter, Action Hero! With a rich background in gaming that spans from Mannequin to Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife, these developers have proven themselves masters of immersive, genre-defining experiences.

As a thrilled gamer, I’m pumped to share some exciting news! My favorite game studio, Fast Travel Games, has finally revealed the release date for their highly anticipated VR shooter, Action Hero. Guess what? It’s just around the corner – December 12th! Can’t wait to suit up and jump into the action!

To mark the announcement, the creator (responsible for titles like Mannequin, Vampire: The Masquerade – Justice, Apex Construct, and Wraith: The Oblivion – Afterlife) has unveiled a debut trailer, offering glimpses of some game levels. Have a look at it below, and we’ve provided details about the game itself, as well as its main highlights.

In Action Hero, players assume the role of the main character across five distinct films, each divided into four acts. Each act comprises five scenes that the player navigates by overcoming adversaries and maneuvering around challenges in dramatic slow-motion sequences. As the player’s movement increases, time accelerates to keep up. Swift reactions and strategic thinking are crucial; receive a blow, and you’ll be sent back to the start of the relevant act.

Every film pays homage to iconic genres, offering you immersive experiences. You’ll explore ancient ruins, experience pulse-pounding heists, battle waves of ninjas, among other adventures. Each movie offers unique elements such as challenging boss fights, innovative weaponry, and exhilarating action sequences that set them apart. One instant you might find yourself evading boulders and surviving a raptor attack, the next moment could have you dodging motorcycles and combatting through a moving train.

Here’s the key features from the press release:

  • 5 Core Movies & 5 Director’s Cuts: Immerse yourself in a modern action epic, break into the enemy base for an explosive heist, explore ancient ruins and more in several movies spanning different genres. Once you’re done, dive into Director’s Cut versions of each level for new, more challenging and wacky scenarios.
  • Comfortable, Cinematic Design: Stationary combat allows you to focus on your physical movements rather than button presses, while slow-motion pacing lets players fight back with stylish flair.
  • Weekly Shot Challenge & Other Features: Perfect your runs for high scores, hunt for hidden collectibles, or tone down the challenge with the Relaxed Mode. The Weekly Shot Challenge also combines four random acts into one movie for players to tackle and compete for high scores in.
  • Built For Meta Quest: Designed with standalone VR in mind, enjoy wire-free gameplay that allows you to lean out of the way of bullets, duck under boulders, and weave through laser grids without getting tangled up.

Action Hero is coming to Meta Quest headsets on December 12th.
