VR Studio XR Games Has Told Employees They Could Be Laid Off

As someone who has been following the gaming industry for the past decade and has seen its ups and downs, it’s always disheartening to hear about layoffs, especially at studios like XR Games. I remember the excitement surrounding their work on Starship Troopers: Continuum and Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded. The thought of talented individuals losing their jobs due to a “massive restructuring” is indeed a hard pill to swallow.

As a passionate admirer, I’m sharing the unfortunate news that XR Games, creators of immersive virtual reality experiences like Starship Troopers: Continuum and Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded, has informed some team members about potential layoffs.

Based on several LinkedIn users’ posts (originally reported by Game Developer), management has indicated that around 72 employees could potentially lose their jobs. To clarify, being at risk of redundancy means that a job position is under consideration for termination within the company. While this doesn’t guarantee layoffs, it can be seen as an indication or warning sign in that direction.

The moves come as part of a “massive restructuring” at XR Games.

Tamara Whymark, the QA project lead, mentioned that there are 72 instances of repetition happening within the company. She acknowledged that the games industry is tough right now but also expressed her support for all her colleagues, whom she considers incredibly talented. So, please pay close attention to them!

XR Games’ latest launch, Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded, has faced a wave of criticisms regarding its quality. In response, the studio issued a statement admitting that the game’s debut didn’t live up to their own high standards. They expressed their dedication to making necessary updates and enhancements to meet both players’ and the company’s expectations for this title.

TopMob has reached out to XR Games for comment on the reported layoff plans.

This year so far, approximately 13,000 job losses have been reported in the gaming sector, affecting around 150 different companies. Experts anticipate further layoffs as the year approaches its end.
