As a seasoned gamer with over three decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that Warframes are indeed a blast, but they can’t quite rival the wild ride offered by games from the turn of the century, like the one I’m about to discuss – Warframe: 1999.
Warframes might be awesome, but nothing compares to the wild events that took place towards the end of the last century.
Meanwhile, as the real world was consumed by Britney Spears’ fame, the Millennium Bug scare, and anticipation for a peaceful new millennium, the game Warframe: 1999 opted for a more entertaining trajectory instead.
Today’s release introduces a new scenario where you assume the part of The Hex – a collective of six individuals transformed into Protoframes.
In the land of Höllvania, a ferocious contagion spreads, reminiscent at times of an enhanced version of the concept presented in Devil May Cry 2. Your mission is to combat this infection-stricken population.
For individuals with a generous spirit, the Warframe: 1999 extension offers the opportunity to develop romantic relationships with any of the Hex group’s members. Therefore, choose your preferred one.

The commitment to the vibe is one of the more endearing parts of Warframe: 1999.
As a fan, I’d like to share that this update brings an authentic 1999 feel to the game by introducing weapons that steer clear of the high-tech aesthetics typically found in Warframe.
Indeed, the protoframes from Warframe: 1999 are arriving at battle equipped with no other weapon than the Kalashnikov assault rifle.
In a forward-thinking environment, it’s quite likely that this technology will play a significant role, given its potential for long-term use in conflicts over the next century.
Apart from this, the developers have added an energetic soundtrack featuring a made-up boy band named On-Lyne as well.
These two songs, “Part of Your Lifetime” and “The Great Despair,” are so convincingly reminiscent of early 2000s kitsch (in the most flattering sense) that they almost seemed too good to be from an actual band, leading me to double-check if they were hiding under a different name.
If you are in it primarily for the lore, it is highly recommended to put some minutes aside to read the Warframe: 1999 webcomic that is available on the game’s site.
The artwork in the study by Cam Rogers and TBG Karu is charming and appealing, while the narrative contributes to establishing the atmosphere for relationships within The Hex community.
