Warframe Devs Give Fans a Little Look Beyond The Old Peace at 2026

The next major update for Warframe, called The Old Peace, arrives on December 10th. It will let players experience a pivotal moment in the game’s lore, test out new ways to play, and even build relationships with characters from the infamous Devil’s Triad. This update is just the beginning, though – the developers have a lot more planned for Warframe in 2026!

Game Rant recently interviewed Rebecca Ford, creative director of Warframe, about the game’s future. Ford shared some hints about what players can expect in 2026, starting with The Old Peace quest. First shown at TennoCon 2025, this quest will delve deeper into the Tau system, a significant location with a rich history in Warframe. Ford also mentioned exciting upcoming events, both within the game and at live events, confirming that Digital Extremes has a lot planned for Warframe in the next year.

Warframe’s Next Major Update Will Travel To The Modern-Day Tau System

Although The Old Peace update adds a significant amount of new content to Warframe, it’s just the beginning of what’s planned for 2026. Next year will bring a large story arc that sends players to the Tau system, a location with a rich history in Warframe. Tau was originally intended to be a prime location for terraforming by the Orokin Empire, but it later became the home of the Sentients after they rebelled against their creators.

The Old Peace expansion, set in the Tau system during the Old War, is a precursor to the major Tau update planned for 2026. Ford explained how these two updates will connect and build upon each other.

Understanding Warframe’s history – the Tenno and the Tau system – is crucial for planning its future. We’re revisiting these origins to prepare for a modern-day Tau, which is a completely new experience for us.

As a huge Warframe fan, I’m really excited about how Digital Extremes is approaching storytelling now! They’ve been doing something special with quests like The Whispers in the Walls, Jade Shadows, and Warframe: 1999, and both The Old Peace and the upcoming 2026 Tau update will continue that style. It’s cool because even though Warframe’s overall story is massive and spans ages, they’re really focusing on the characters and how individual stories connect to the bigger picture. Ford mentioned that they’re committed to telling these relatable, human stories in fresh and unexpected ways, and honestly, that’s what I’m most looking forward to!

An “Echoes” Update, Warframes, Skins, And More Are Coming In 2026

Okay, so we’re all still hyped for Tau, but Digital Extremes has a ton planned for us before that! Steve Ford mentioned they’re working on what they’re calling an “echoes” update for early 2026. Basically, it’s going to revisit and build on one of the older expansions, which is awesome. We just kicked off 2025 with Techrot Encore, a continuation of Warframe: 1999 that introduced Coda, a seriously cool and dangerous Warframe who’s a total rock star. Ford said 2026 will have something similar to Techrot Encore – another update that expands on a previous story!

Each year, we typically begin with an ‘echoes’ update. This revisits and builds upon features from the previous update, much like how Techrot Encore expanded on the Warframe: 1999 content.

The next major update for Warframe, expected in 2026 and referred to as ‘echoes,’ will likely connect to the existing ‘The Old Peace’ or ‘The Devil’s Triad’ quests. There’s a possibility it will further develop the relationships players can have with characters from The Devil’s Triad. The development team plans to reveal specific details in their January Devstream, and encourages players to watch to find out what’s planned for the year ahead.

Keep an Eye Out For New Skins and Warframes

Ford shared that players can anticipate new Warframes and exciting skins in the future. During the latest Devstream, the team revealed a Deluxe skin for Dagath, along with customization options for Kaithe, including a ‘Floof’ version. These will be released in February 2026 to ring in the Chinese Lunar New Year. With all these horse-themed items, Warframe players will be able to celebrate the Year of the Horse in a special way. Players will also have a chance to start collecting parts for Dagath in January 2026, though specific details are still to come.

The Deluxe Dagath skin probably won’t be the only new cosmetic coming to Warframe in 2026, and Ford has suggested that new Warframes are also on the way. Ford hinted the team is aiming for some innovative and surprising content, saying he wants Warframe to stay fresh and accessible with new and unusual ideas.

2026 Will Be A Big Year For In-Person Events

The creators of the game Warframe are planning several live events in 2026. Building on the positive response to TennoCon 2025, they’ve already announced TennoCon 2026, with tickets available starting February 27th. Additionally, the team will be traveling the globe, hosting exclusive TennoVIP events in various countries, according to Ford.

We’re continuing our global tour to meet our players face-to-face through TennoVIP events, and we’re kicking things off in Australia this January.

Besides the event in Australia, the Warframe team will also be at PAX East in March with both a Devstream and a TennoVIP event, just like they did in 2025 for the game’s 12th anniversary.

Tickets for these events become available on February 12th. We’re also planning another event in London this July, and we may announce more TennoVIP events in other locations in the future. Players who are interested should watch for news, including the upcoming Devstream in January.

2026 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for Warframe, and The Old Peace is just the start. Players will soon be able to explore the modern-day Tau system, which will add a lot of new content and greatly expand the game’s story. This key location has been central to many important events, influencing both the past and present. Though details are still emerging, Warframe players have plenty to anticipate in the coming year.
