Warzone Is Collapsing, But At Least You Have More Gulag Rocks Now

Currently, Warzone finds itself in a challenging position. It’s been quite some time since the glory days of 2020 when Verdansk was at the forefront of everyone’s thoughts, and what persists today is but a shadow of the once-thriving battle royale game leader. The competitive sphere is fragmented, professional players have endured long waits for their earnings, and unscrupulous players are causing trouble for the worldwide gaming community with growing impunity.

However, there’s no need for worry – in the latest updates before Warzone Season 02, Activision’s developers have disclosed that the correct quantity of rocks for use in the Gulag is now available.

Last week, I discussed how numerous professional Call of Duty: Warzone players are yet to receive a substantial amount of money, approximately hundreds of thousands of dollars, that’s allegedly due from Activision and their partners.

After the World Series of Warzone concluded last year, winners from leading teams were unable to claim their prizes. The situation in Warzone esports was already challenging, and this disclosure dashed any optimism fans held for a revival or improvement in the upcoming months.

On social and streaming platforms, sentiments are at an all-time low.

On Twitch, it feels like the record-breaking 1.6 million viewers we saw in April 2021 was just a vivid dream, considering the average peak viewership in the last seven days is approximately 24,000 users. It’s possible this decline could be due to the broader downturn of the battle royale genre, as other games aren’t faring much better either.

  • PUBG – 12,800 avg
  • Apex Legends – 16,100 avg

Over the past week, Fortnite maintains its popularity with an average of 65,800 peak viewers, which isn’t shocking considering its remarkable growth in recent times.

In the latest updates for Warzone’s Season 2, numerous bug fixes and adjustments were highlighted in the patch notes. However, a specific change that sparked some criticism on social media was mentioned as follows:

*The noticeable modification that garnered some snide remarks on social platforms reads:*

Or more colloquially,

*One tweak that got a few side-eyes on Twitter and other socials is this one:*

Fixed an issue where players only had one Gulag Rock instead of five in the Gulag.

This led numerous users to take digs at Activision’s priority system, implying that addressing this issue is merely a single grain of sand compared to the vast array of problems they face.

In a post on Twitter (X), CouRage suggested what needs to be done to revive Warzone:

It’s truly disheartening to witness the current state of Call of Duty: Warzone. Seems like this intellectual property has been handled haphazardly, with too many people involved, excessive ego clashes, and Activision showing an overabundance of greed.

I suggest a complete reset, starting from Warzone 1.0, transforming it into a self-contained experience. Only new, fresh content should be added to breathe life back into the game.
