Warzone players beg for aim assist nerf after Apex Legends does it first

As a seasoned gamer with decades under my belt and fingers calloused from countless hours spent wrestling controllers and keyboards alike, I can’t help but feel a sense of vindication at the news of Apex Legends’ aim assist nerf. For years, I’ve been grappling with the frustrating reality that my trusty controller often feels like it has a mind of its own in shooters, giving my opponents on mouse and keyboard an unfair edge.

In the upcoming Season 22 of Apex Legends, a significant adjustment to the game’s assist system (nerf) is planned. Fans of Call of Duty’s Warzone are urging the developers to make similar changes as well.

The developers at Respawn Entertainment acknowledged that the aim assist feature in their game was excessively powerful and planned to reduce its strength by a quarter in the upcoming August 6 update. However, when Call of Duty players learned about this adjustment, they urged Raven Software to make a similar modification to their own game as well.

In a recent post, ‘IceManIsaac’, a content creator for Call of Duty: Warzone, suggested that implementing a nerf might attract a large number of Mouse and Keyboard (MnK) players back to the game who had previously abandoned it. This adjustment could also enhance the skill disparity within the game.

Professional gamer ‘HusKerrs’ concurred with Isaac, stating: “I continue to think they can adjust aim assist just enough to widen the skill gap in aiming and make close-range battles between KBM (keyboard and mouse) players more equitable. This change might be imperceptible to the 90% of casual players.”

They persistently hold the conviction that they can discover a suitable nerf for aim assist, which would widen the skill gap in aiming and make close-range battles between KBM players more equitable, without the majority 90% of casual players noticing any change.

In discussions about first-person shooter games, the issue of aim assistance is frequently brought up. This feature is designed to compensate for the perceived decrease in precision when using a gamepad as opposed to a mouse and keyboard, by subtly improving the player’s aiming capabilities.

In multiplayer gaming scenarios, particularly when different platforms compete simultaneously (crossplay), keyboard and mouse users frequently argue that controller players may have an unbalanced advantage during gunfights due to the lack of equivalent assistance they receive compared to controller users.

In the latest Apex Legends update, they’re eliminating weapon flinch entirely, which means that getting hit won’t disrupt your aim any longer. This is particularly beneficial for players using mouse and keyboard, as the absence of aim assist can make it challenging to regain control when flinch occurs.

As an ardent fan and dedicated player, I’m echoing the advice of renowned Call of Duty analyst JGOD: it’s high time for some adjustments! Specifically, let’s dial down the weapon recoil sensitivity in both Battle Royale (BR) and multiplayer modes. Simultaneously, a subtle aim assist tweak would be beneficial to maintain the game’s balance.

As a seasoned gamer with years of Call of Duty under my belt, I can’t help but hope for some changes in the upcoming installment. Reducing player flinch (not necessarily to zero) would be a welcome improvement, making gunfights more skill-based and less random. Additionally, general anti-aircraft adjustments seem necessary, taking into account improved dead zones, aim sensitivity tuning, and overall responsiveness. However, I’ve noticed that the developers have been resistant to these suggestions in the past, with statements like “My AA doesn’t do that,” which hints at a reluctance to adapt and innovate. Hopefully, they’ll listen to the player base this time around and make the necessary tweaks to create an even more enjoyable gaming experience.

Streamer ‘TheTacticalBrit’ endorsed these updates, believing that Call of Duty: Warzone should adopt similar modifications to stay competitive: “These alterations represent the path forward. Without substantial adjustments to anti-aircraft mechanics, player hotboxes, and hit registration/server issues, Warzone will lack a skill gap.”

1. The modifications made to Apex are expected to prolong the discussion about aim assist in Warzone for several months. It’s not probable that there will be significant changes during Season 5 Reloaded or Season 6, but we’ll have to observe if the release of Black Ops 6 alters this feature at all.
