Warzone Purgatory mode explained – Everything to know about The Haunting LTM

As a seasoned Warzone player with countless hours under my belt and a knack for surviving the most treacherous of battlefields, I must say that the upcoming Purgatory mode in Season 6 has me absolutely thrilled! The horror-themed Rebirth Island reimagining, with its slithering tentacles and ominous shadows, promises an exhilarating twist on the familiar Resurgence map.

As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled about the transformative changes in Warzone Season 6! For the spooktacular The Haunting event, the iconic Rebirth Island has been reimagined with an all-new twist – the chilling Purgatory mode. Can’t wait to see what awaits us there!

The Hellspawn variant of Rebirth’s beloved map Resurgence has been characterized as a “tremendously chilling reinvention,” where writhing tendrils cover the ground, dark, foreboding shades pervade, and the walls sport grotesque, fleshy protrusions.

In addition to Zombie Royale, a terrifying map has been designed for Warzone’s Limited Time Mode (LTM) called Purgatory. Here’s what you should know about this exciting new gameplay experience.

What is Purgatory mode in Warzone?

In simple terms, starting from September 18 (Warzone Season 6), there’s a new game mode called Purgatory in Warzone, which is based on a squad system and takes place on Rebirth Island’s Hellspawn version. This mode features unique mechanics that significantly change the way the battle royale game is typically played.

In Purgatory, unlike traditional Battle Royale or Resurgence games, I’m always ready with my custom loadout at hand and can respawn indefinitely. Unlike the usual battle of being the last team standing, we can achieve victory by eradicating our enemies and acknowledging fellow players when they perform remarkably well.

The developers haven’t specified how long these matches will run, but they mentioned that players can accomplish tasks at their leisure. This suggests that the matches might last longer compared to usual ones due to the flexibility in completing objectives.

Warzone Purgatory mode mechanics

  • Powerups: The Purgatory mode includes “powerful Weapon Blueprints and plentiful Killstreaks,” as well as the super weapons from the Arcade mode and Mutation’s abilities.
  • Portals: Portals can be found around the map, transporting to you other locations.
  • Flying Shipment: Shipment flies over the map and can be visited through parachutes, helicopters, and Portals.
  • Safe Zone: Players can visit the Safe Zone where they can’t deal or receive damage. Here, you’ll be in a third-person perspective.
  • Torment Level: Killing enemies increases your Torment Level and the higher it is, the more XP you’ll earn. However, it will also increase your visibility on the minimap so you’ll become a bigger target.
  • Scare Packages: These Halloween care packages will drop around the map, providing powerful loot but also “some unexpected side effects.”
  • Terriball: Spawning in ground lost and in Scare Packages, Terriballs can be shot, meleed, or kicked at enemy Operators, and they’ll one-shot whoever they hit.

Inside the Safe Zone, you have the ability to tailor your gear setup and recognize fellow players, which helps you gain experience points and ultimately achieve the win.

In simple terms, Warzone Season 6 marks the last significant update prior to Black Ops 6’s launch on October 25th. Don’t worry though, any cosmetic items or rewards you earn during this season will still be usable in the future of the battle royale series.
