As a seasoned Call of Duty player with years of Battle Royale under my belt, I must say, Activision has truly outdone themselves with this upcoming Warzone overhaul! The new Area 99 map looks like it’ll bring the fast-paced action I crave, and the return of Verdansk next year? Talk about a blast from the past!
In a recent event called Call of Duty NEXT, Activision unveiled plans for the upcoming direction of the Call of Duty universe. At this showcase, they announced numerous updates that will be implemented in Warzone over the next few months. Notably, a significant transformation is planned when Black Ops 6 is launched at the end of October.
The team revealed a new small-form map, Area 99, and they confirmed that in 2025, Verdansk will make a return as a large-scale map, but elsewhere, some sizeable changes are in the pipeline.
Read on to learn about everything changing in Warzone soon.
Refreshing
The Area 99 map is set to deliver thrills and speed for fans of the Resurgence series. With its atomic motif, this map revolves around a nuclear power station, creating an intriguing connection to Black Ops’ Nuketown layout.
When Black Ops 6 drops on October 25th, I’m all set for Warzone to roll out a slew of updates, including the incorporation of the fresh ‘Omnimovement’ mechanics that come with the upcoming version of the Black Ops series. It’s only natural that every weapon and most gear from Black Ops 6 will find its way into Warzone as well.
In the latest iteration of Warzone, the “Carry Forward” feature allows for nearly all weapons from Modern Warfare II and III to be transferred over by Activision’s development teams.
In regards to equipment, players can now equip a melee weapon as an additional option when entering Warzone. Furthermore, players can choose three Perks to bring with them into Warzone, along with a ‘Wildcard’ which has been absent from the Call of Duty universe for quite some time. Interestingly, this is the first time Wildcards will be featured in Warzone since its establishment five years ago.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled about the abundance of challenges Activision has planned for Warzone! These tasks will offer an exciting grind, from mastering weapons to perfecting my reticle, and even earning the elusive ‘Dark Ops Calling Card’. Though the specifics of the latter are being kept secret for now.
But There’s More
It doesn’t end there.
Raven Software announced that they’re simplifying the game by eliminating the backpack system, returning the inventory management to a basic format. From now on, items like cash and armor plates will be stored in a user-friendly menu, making it unnecessary for bulky backpacks in the future.
Satchels are making a return, though. When you pick them up, you’ll either boost your armour plate storage or your ammunition capacity.
In the game, Raven has optimized several mechanisms related to movement and user convenience. For example, navigating with ziplines and ascenders is now smoother, while the duration of live pings has been reduced to minimize markers interfering with your view.
In summary, it’s been verified that upon the launch of Black Ops 6 Season 1 and Warzone this year, a Battle Royale Ranked Play mode will be introduced – an exciting development for those who appreciate a more competitive gaming experience on the platform.
