Star Wars Actor Sam Witwer Sees Potential in a Darth Maul Video Game
Although Darth Maul is a fan favorite in the Star Wars universe, he hasn’t starred in his own video game yet. Over ten years ago, Red Fly Studio started developing a Darth Maul game (working title Maul), but the project was canceled when Disney acquired Lucasfilm. Sam Witwer, who voiced and performed as Darth Maul in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, thinks a game centered around the character could be amazing. He recently told Discussing Film that he has a clear vision for a Maul game if a studio decides to make it.
Sam Witwer is a well-known voice actor in the gaming world. He’s voiced iconic Star Wars characters like Starkiller and Emperor Palpatine in The Force Unleashed games, as well as Maul in Battlefront 2 and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. He’s also appeared in other popular games such as The Callisto Protocol (as Captain Leon Farris) and Horizon Forbidden West (as Walter Londra). Because of his experience and popularity, fans were excited by his suggestion that a dedicated Darth Maul game should be made, perhaps by a major developer like Electronic Arts (EA) or Ubisoft.
Back in 2015, Dan Borth from Red Fly Studio revealed on Reddit that they were trying to revive a canceled Darth Maul video game. They planned to show EA a demo in the hopes of getting the project greenlit. The game would have been a story-driven, third-person adventure following a young Darth Maul’s climb through the ranks of the Sith. Concept art was shared with fans, showcasing Maul’s different looks, other characters, and a glimpse of one of the game’s environments. However, Red Fly Studio hasn’t said much about the project recently, leaving fans disappointed but still hoping a Darth Maul game will eventually happen.
