'We March On' - Palworld Dev Comments on Nintendo Lawsuit

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but admire the tenacity and spirit displayed by the team at Pocketpair. The Nintendo lawsuit was certainly an unexpected turn of events, but their unwavering commitment to their creative vision is truly commendable.

In response to Nintendo’s recent lawsuit against them, the creators of Palworld have no intention of changing their plans for the game’s future. This was stated by John “Bucky” Buckley, Global Community Manager at Pocketpair, during an interview with Game Rant at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. Buckley remained resolute, expressing their determination to press forward in discussions about Palworld’s future.

Due to the length of time that had elapsed since the game was first released in early access, it came as a shock when Nintendo decided to take legal action against Pocketpair for patent violations earlier this month. This revelation left the Pocketpair team, who claimed they hadn’t received any direct communication from Nintendo before the lawsuit, equally astounded.

According to certain experts, it’s been suggested that the patent supposedly violated by Pocketpair might be linked to mechanisms for capturing creatures. However, there’s been no definitive confirmation yet about this possibility. Interestingly, even Bucky and the Pocketpair team are unaware of the alleged infringement, as stated by the Global Community Manager who shared with Game Rant that they still don’t understand what they might have done wrong, despite a week having elapsed since the lawsuit was initially made public.

“We refuse for any plans to be changed. We march on.” – John Buckley, Global Community Manager at Pocketpair

It’s important to point out that Bucky’s remarks bear a striking resemblance to the statements released by Pocketpair following Nintendo’s lawsuit. Specifically, their pledge to protect and encourage indie game developers, as implied in their commitment to “allow creators to freely express their ideas,” conveys a message that is quite similar, serving both their player community and those aiming to suppress creativity through legal means.

The Future Remains Bright for Palworld

Regarding the ongoing legal issues, Pocketpair maintains optimism about the future of Palworld. This confidence stems from several factors. Firstly, the game’s unprecedented popularity on Steam, with an average of more than 20,000 simultaneous players. Secondly, PS5 sales are reportedly doing well even though Palworld was recently launched for this console. Lastly, the development team has a significant update in store for later this year, which they believe could take many gamers by surprise.

Keep an eye out for insights into Palworld’s future as we publish our interview with Pocketpair on our site in the upcoming days.
