Wednesday Season 2: New Therapist for Jericho After Dr. Kinbott’s Death?

Summary

  • Dr. Kinbott, an empathetic therapist, met a tragic end in Wednesday Season 1, leaving a gap in the storyline.
  • With Dr. Kinbott gone, the arrival of Dr. Fairburn in Wednesday Season 2 could bring healing to Jericho’s troubled residents.
  • Thandiwe Newton’s mysterious character, Dr. Fairburn, might hold the key to helping characters like Tyler cope with their emotional baggage in the upcoming season.

In the first episode of Wednesday, it was Dr. Valerie Kinbott’s reputation for brilliance that sparked her name. This was during the scene where the entire Addams family met with Principal Weems in his office. As arrangements were being made for Wednesday’s induction, Principal Weems introduced a non-Addams therapist – Dr. Kinbott – mentioning that the school had connections to a local professional who would handle Wednesday’s therapy sessions.

In each encounter Wednesday had with Dr. Kinbott, she seemed to draw Dr. Kinbott deeper into her unique situation. However, by the end of the series, the Hyde monster (Tyler Galpin) tragically took Dr. Kinbott’s life, effectively ending her character’s storyline in the show. Given that Jericho has a diverse population requiring therapeutic care, one might wonder if Wednesday Season 2 will introduce a new therapist to cater to outcasts, oddballs, and ordinary folks alike.

Dr. Kinbott’s Exit From Wednesday

In Principal Weems’ office, Morticia Addams disclosed that Wednesday’s therapy was compulsory by the court. Larissa then suggested that she could meet with the therapist twice a week. While Gomez was pleased to learn his daughter was in capable care, Wednesday seized the moment to fire a sharp comment: “We’ll see if she [Dr. Kinbott] makes it through the first session.

Unfortunately, Dr. Kinbott’s words from Wednesday seemed to come true, as he didn’t survive long enough to discover Marilyn Thornhill as the antagonist. Larissa takes Wednesday to Dr. Kinbott’s clinic in Jericho, where Wednesday continues her usual hostile behavior towards the doctor’s approach. In their first session, dressed in soothing colors, Dr. Kinbott is able to peek beneath Wednesday’s surface. He has thoroughly read her manuscripts and concluded that the characteristics of Viper De La Muerte, her novel’s protagonist, are strikingly similar to her own. Furthermore, Dr. Kinbott understands that Wednesday incorporates her personal relationships into her writing and suggests to the young girl that therapy could be beneficial for her, helping her progress and create the life she desires.

In the course of Wednesday’s Season 1, both Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, and Tyler Galpin, the sheriff’s son, make a trip to see Dr. Kinbott. For the most part, Tyler appears to respect Dr. Kinbott. When Sheriff Galpin inquires about Tyler’s advancements, Dr. Kinbott maintains secrecy, upholding the sacred doctor-patient privacy. It is Tyler who eventually confides in his father that he talks about his deceased mother with Dr. Kinbott. Francois, his mother, was a previous student of Nevermore and a dormant Hyde, whose monster emerged during her postpartum depression. She was admitted to Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital and passed away later on.

Following Francois’s demise, the Sheriff found a profound emptiness in his life that he never managed to fill. This void proved crucial for Tyler’s bond with his therapist. Had Marilyn Thornhill not intervened, Dr. Kinbott could have made substantial headway in Tyler’s therapy. Alongside treating Wednesday and Tyler, Dr. Kinbott also clandestinely consulted Nevermore’s artist and psychic, Xavier Thorpe. Initially, Wednesday mistakenly accused Xavier of being the Hyde monster and thought Dr. Kinbott was employing hypnotherapy to unleash his monstrous side. In reality, she was aiding Xavier in overcoming his personal struggles. Later, Wednesday confides in Uncle Fester at The Weathervane:

In my role as a follower, I am Xavier’s mentor, and it is under specific circumstances that my identity as the Hyde remains concealed. This alter ego lies dormant until it is triggered by a distressing incident or awakened through the application of hypnotic chemicals.

What Does Dr. Kinbott’s Departure Mean For Wednesday Season 2?

When Wednesday confronts Dr. Kinbott at her clinic, accusing her of being Laurel Gates (Thornhill’s true identity) and the Mayor’s murder, she strongly refutes the accusations. Wednesday wonders why a highly skilled psychiatrist like her is in a small town like Jericho. Agitated and worried, Dr. Kinbott informs Wednesday that she plans to transfer her to a juvenile psychiatric facility, and contacts Principal Weems. However, before they can discuss Wednesday’s unusual behavior any further, Tyler (the Hyde) assaults Dr. Kinbott and ends up killing her. She succumbs to her injuries at Jericho General Hospital, leaving Wednesday in shock.

In the series “Wednesday,” Dr. Kinbott stood out as the most compassionate character. She provided a nurturing environment for misfits and fostered open-mindedness. Her therapeutic approach was grounded in mutual trust, assuring Wednesday that she could confide in her freely. Dr. Kinbott valued and respected the unique perspectives of her patients, thereby establishing a profound impact. With her departure, there’s a need for another therapist to uphold her valuable work.

Who Is Dr. Fairburn In Wednesday

In the upcoming season 2 of Wednesday, we have a fresh addition to the cast – Thandiwe Newton, who will take on the enigmatic role of Dr. Fairburn. Although specifics about her character are yet to be revealed, given that she carries the title “Dr.”, it’s possible that she either works at Willow Hill, where Tyler is currently detained, or functions as a local therapist in the town. If Dr. Fairburn works with psychotic serial killer monsters like Tyler, she proves to be an imposing figure. Alternatively, if she serves as Jericho’s resident therapist, she could play a significant role in healing both the town and its inhabitants.

As turmoil approaches, it seems crucial that Wednesday’s significant figures, including Enid and Eugene, receive assistance to manage their emotional burdens. Dr. Fairburn may be instrumental in enhancing the wellness of Nevermore Academy students during the forthcoming season.

Wednesday Season 2 is slated to premiere on Netflix in 2025.
