Wednesday Season 2 Should Reveal More About The Gates Family

Wednesday Season 2 Should Reveal More About The Gates Family

As a dedicated gamer who has spent countless hours navigating through the labyrinth of narrative-rich games like “The Witcher” and “Stranger Things”, I eagerly anticipate the continuation of “Wednesday”. The intricate lore, rich history, and deep-rooted conflicts within the town of Jericho are reminiscent of these immersive gaming experiences.

As a gamer stepping into the eerie world of Jericho, Vermont, I found myself navigating among two distinctly different groups. The “odd ones” or the outcasts, who are individuals with extraordinary abilities, much like Wednesday’s psychic powers, and other supernatural creatures such as werewolves, sirens, gorgons, vampires, and hydes. Conversely, there are the ordinary humans, often referred to as “normies”, a term reminiscent of the muggles from Harry Potter, coexisting in this town. Although most of Season 1 primarily revolved around the outcasts, some normies were crucial to the unfolding narrative too.

Inside Jericho, there’s ongoing friction between two communities. Deputy Donovan Galpin harbors mistrust towards outcasts and suspicion towards Nevermore Academy, prompting Principal Larissa Weems to take strong actions to safeguard her students. Additionally, Lucas Walker, the mayor’s son, initially torments outcasts but eventually befriends Enid and develops a relationship with Bianca. Out of all the ‘normies’ introduced last season, The Gates Family had the most significant impact on the storyline and could potentially remain crucial in future seasons.

They Are Related to Joseph Crackstone

Wednesday Season 2 Should Reveal More About The Gates Family

The Gates Family and the Addams Family share a long, deep-rooted history that traces back to the early days of the conflict between mainstream society and outsiders. One of the earliest settlers in Jericho, a man named Joseph Crackstone, was known for his fiery sermons against outsiders, labeling them as unholy. He clashed with Goody Addams, an ancestor of Wednesday, who was falsely accused of witchcraft and faced persecution along with her fellow outcasts. Though Goody managed to escape, many others, including her mother, were not so fortunate. In retaliation for his actions, Goody killed Crackstone and sealed his coffin with a blood seal. She then went on to establish the Nightshade Society, an organization dedicated to safeguarding outsiders from harm.

Laurel Gates Was Last Season’s Main Antagonist

Wednesday Season 2 Should Reveal More About The Gates Family

Centuries after Crackstone, Ansel Gates continued his ancestor’s legacy of hatred towards outcasts. At the Rave’N event in 1990, Ansel secretly gave his son Garrett a vial of nightshade poison, intending for him to mix it into the punch and kill all the outcasts at Nevermore. However, Garrett had developed feelings for Morticia, and when he saw her dancing with Gomez, he attempted to confront him. In a fateful accident, Garrett collided with a column, causing the vial of nightshade in his pocket to break, poisoning himself instead. Mayor Noble Walker claimed that Ansel had confessed this act to him and used his vast wealth to hide it by backing Walker’s political campaign. Tragically, Garrett’s immediate family also suffered: his mother took her own life, his father succumbed to alcoholism, and his sister drowned.

…Or was it Marilyn Thornhill who took on the role of Laurel Gates at Nevermore’s first normie teacher? The season finale unveiled this twist: Marilyn had been seeking vengeance for her family’s murders and furthering Joseph Crackstone’s plan to eliminate all outcasts. She managed to resurrect Joseph briefly, but Wednesday put an end to him permanently by plunging a knife into his heart. In a bid to kill Wednesday, Laurel pulled the trigger, only for Eugene and his bees to intervene. As Laurel lay writhing from the bee stings, Wednesday delivered the final blow by stomping on her.

How Could The Gates Family Continue to Be Featured?

Wednesday Season 2 Should Reveal More About The Gates Family

After Joseph Crackstone’s permanent demise and Laurel’s apparent defeat, one might wonder how The Gates Family can remain central. However, we never learned about Laurel’s fate following Wednesday’s confrontation. She could be incarcerated or institutionalized, making for an intriguing plot twist in the upcoming season’s stalker storyline. As for Ansel, it was reported that he died from alcoholism at the hands of Mayor Walker. But considering Mayor Walker’s history of protecting Ansel, there’s a chance he might still be alive. Bringing him back, either repentant or still blaming outcasts, could add depth to his character, given his role in his family’s downfall. Alternatively, Ansel could potentially be alive, struggling to change his ways or continuing to blame outcasts for his misfortunes. Lastly, instead of solely focusing on the immediate Gates Family, Season 2 could introduce other members of their extended family. This would create an interesting contrast akin to an Addams Family reunion.

1. Apart from reappearing in a flashback episode, Garrett might unveil more secrets about The Gates Family. Moreover, considering this series is supernatural, he could manifest as a ghost wandering the halls of Nevermore. This could offer him a chance to find resolution with Morticia and Gomez, long after his demise.

The upcoming season of “Wednesday” promises to intensify the conflict. Given that the feud between The Gates Family and The Addams Family has a long history, it’s logical for their rivalry to persist in Season 2. This complex family offers a wealth of intriguing narrative possibilities. Whatever direction they take in the next season, it’s certain to be mysterious, eccentric, and slightly frightening.
