In August and September of 2025, the second season of Netflix’s series titled “Wednesday” is set to air, featuring intriguing and entertaining episode titles. As fans eagerly anticipate Jenna Ortega’s portrayal of Wednesday Addams as she reappears at Nevermore Academy, they’re left wondering about several unresolved plots. The storyline includes Wednesday’s quest to find her stalker, a significant update on Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan), and the revelation of what transpired when Nevermore Academy was closed down. The suspense is high as we look forward to delving back into this unique setting brimming with mysteries.
Due to a fresh snapshot featuring the Goth teenager sporting her iconic braids alongside certain characters from season 2 of Wednesday, it’s been confirmed that one adored Addams Family member is making a comeback to the hit series. However, when they reappear in Wednesday’s unique, dark, and humorous environment, what sort of part will they play?
Wednesday Season 2 Images Show Lurch, But This Addams Family Character Needs A More Important Role Than Season 1
At a Netflix event held in New York City on May 14th, 2025, Deadline unveiled a fresh image from season 2 of Wednesday, featuring Wednesday Addams along with her family members. The picture includes Wednesday, her brother Pugsley (Isaac Ordonez), their mother Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), father Gomez (Luis Guzmán), and Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen). A new addition to the cast is revealed in this image – Joanna Lumely, who portrays Grandmama. Also appearing in the photo is Lurch, the family’s chauffeur and butler, played by Joonas Suotamo.
It would be wonderful if Lurch took on a larger, more substantial, and more impactful role in season 2. Having him drive the family once more is reassuring, but it would be intriguing to witness him assist Wednesday in her upcoming adventures. In season 2, maybe Lurch could join Wednesday in her pursuit of her stalker. Since Lurch communicates through grunts and doesn’t speak, he could offer subtle hints that might help uncover the identity of the stalker. Just like Wednesday and Thing share their own unique language, I believe Wednesday and Lurch could also find a way to communicate effectively.
It’d also be enjoyable to imagine Lurch and Thing forming an alliance, perhaps even including Grandmama, to safeguard Wednesday against the stalker. This scenario not only offers a chance to involve Lurch more in the storyline, but it would also bring delight to fans as they get to witness more interactions among the Addams Family, filled with their characteristic humor and camaraderie.

As a dedicated fan of the Addams Family, I’ve often pondered if their iconic mansion will grace our screens and what hilarious antics Lurch might get up to around the house. Maybe Wednesday could pop in unexpectedly to surprise her parents or even return home for the winter holidays in an upcoming episode, depending on the timeline. Regardless of the plot twists, it’s high time we delve deeper into Lurch’s character, especially since his silent demeanor belies a rich expressiveness that demands attention. Although he may not utter a word, Lurch’s eyes and facial expressions tell tales, and I can hardly wait to see more interactions between him and Wednesday. It seems only fitting that, after decades of driving the family around, Lurch deserves a more prominent role in the series, given his integral part within the Addams Family franchise’s storied history.
Lurch Was Recast For Wednesday Season 2
In the first season of Wednesday, George Burcea portrayed the iconic character, Lurch from the Addams Family. However, for the second season, Lurch was recast, as he is well-known for his distinctive appearance, and it’s challenging to envision the series proceeding without him. Similarly to Thing and Cousin Itt, Lurch has a unique style.
In the TV series The Addams Family that first aired in 1964, Ted Cassidy took on the role of Lurch. On the other hand, Carel Struycken played this character in the 1991 film The Addams Family and its sequel, Addams Family Values from 1993. Interestingly, Struycken reprised his role for the third movie that came out in 1998.
Spectators eagerly anticipate delving deeper into the Addams Family’s past in the upcoming season 2 of Wednesday, and incorporating Lurch could be a fantastic approach. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter back in 2022, co-showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough discussed their commitment to preserving what makes Wednesday’s family dark, peculiar, and captivating. Millar mentioned:
In this version, the sentence structure is a bit more conversational, and I’ve added some extra context to help clarify the meaning.
We aimed to pay tribute to the enduring legacy of the Addams Family, and we felt this was crucial for us to do. It’s something we always take pleasure in accomplishing. We believe it acknowledges our dedicated fans. There’s a sense of nostalgia in our show too. Furthermore, we revisited the original Charles Addams illustrations as inspiration.
