Final Fantasy is responsible for some of the most iconic JRPGs in gaming history, with one of their biggest grand slams being Final Fantasy 7. While Final Fantasy 7 can get a little wild, there are titles in the franchise that dive into the completely absurd.

Games can become complex and hard to keep up with, sometimes due to the unpredictable turns in their narratives. A classic illustration of this is Final Fantasy 2, which masterfully incorporates numerous unexpected plot developments that can result in a truly surreal storyline.

Though it was unusual for its time, “Final Fantasy 2” crammed an impressive array of concepts into a single narrative. The technology showcased is a fusion of magic-infused artifacts and advanced mechanical airships, with the Dark Knight’s Dreadnought adding a futuristic touch to the mix.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but recount my recent adventure in the land of mystery and intrigue. The neighboring kingdom was thrown into chaos when their beloved king fell gravely ill. With heavy hearts, my party and I embarked on a quest to find the legendary Dragoon, who was said to hold the cure for the ailment.

2 Final Fantasy 15

Final Fantasy Versus 13 went through a roller coaster of development, making its final form, Final Fantasy 15, one of the most impressive reveals in the franchise. FinalFantasy 15 is set in the world of Eos and does an amazing job of capturing a modernized world setting, in a world where magic exists. The way players drive a stylish car down paved roads, set up campsites, and stop to take pictures with a camera, creates the experience of a group of friends going on a road trip. The game’s story itself has been said to be extremely confusing, and this is because not all of the lore is within just the game.

As someone who has dedicated countless hours to exploring the rich and complex world of this game, I can’t stress enough the importance of delving into its various media offerings to truly grasp the intricacies of the story. From the engrossing series that sets the stage for the main events, to the thought-provoking film that adds depth to certain characters and themes, and finally, the captivating novel that expands upon the lore and backstory – each medium enriches the experience in its own unique way.

3 Final Fantasy 13

It’s Hard To Stay Focused On The Focus

In the sprawling realm of Gran Pulse resides the secluded, drifting metropolis of Cocoon. For those dwelling within its confines, any engagement with the outer world is met with exile. The rigid rules are strictly upheld by the revered fal’Cie of Cocoon, beings regarded as deities by the city’s residents, despite their fabrication by a mightier being. As the story’s heroine, I, Lightning, yearn to free my crystallized l’Cie sister Serah from her fate. L’Cie are individuals chosen by the fal’Cie with a unique mission, termed their Focus. Once these objectives are accomplished, they undergo crystallization, granting them an everlasting existence.

When encountering a fal’Cie, the main character and their team get transformed into l’Cie. Two party members are uncovered as previous Pulse l’Cie who had woken up from their crystallized condition thirteen days prior to the game’s beginning. Their mission is to demolish Cocoon, which will bring forth the creator of fal’Cie. The team manages to eliminate a resting fal’Cie that supports Cocoon, causing it to crumble and completing their objective. However, two party members transform into the mighty entity called Ragnarok, then into a pillar sustaining Cocoon, thereby halting its destruction. This results in all other party members emerging from their crystalline slumber, including Lightning’s sibling. Several other entries in the Final Fantasy series have sprung from this game and its sequels, making the storyline more accessible.

4 Final Fantasy 10

It Was All A Dream In The Real World

As a devoted fan, I’d say that among all the Final Fantasy games out on the PS2, my heart was won over by Final Fantasy X the moment I laid my hands on it. In this captivating adventure, I joined Tidus, a native of Zanarkand, as he embarks on an unforgettable journey. But when a colossal monster named Sin strikes, everything turns upside down: I find myself in a distant future where the once-thriving city of Zanarkand lies in ruins. Along the way, I’ll uncover the mysteries of Spira and its enigmatic beings known as the Fayth.

It’s revealed that Tidus, as well as the city of Zanarkand, were merely dreams brought forth by the Fayth. The Fayth are individuals who voluntarily had their spirits absorbed into stone monuments, yet they continue to dream in this state. These dreams serve as a means to summon creatures into the realm of Spira. Many fans are excitedly anticipating whether this concept will be explored further in potential future installments of the Final Fantasy series.

5 Final Fantasy 4

Secret Aliens On A Fake Moon

There are many versions of Final Fantasy 4, but the story stays just as bizarre. Players will easily notice that the game is set in a world that has two moons. What they will not be aware of is that one of these moons is a fake created by an advanced alien race. The story follows the game’s protagonist and his close friend, who are following the orders of the king, but turn on the king after realizing how much destruction they have left in their wake under his orders. However, this realization comes just before an earth-splitting cataclysmic event that releases a mighty titan and separates the protagonist from his friend.

The story lays out a voyage for the player, packed with enigmatic characters: a supposed friend turned foe who has been brainwashed, and a voice within the protagonist’s mind claiming to be his father. The journey leads to the elusive Red Moon, but encounters prevent progress. Nevertheless, the player eventually obtains command of an airship, allowing travel to the Red Moon. There, they discover that the protagonist possesses alien heritage and has a sibling. Following the defeat of the ultimate adversary, the alien being is able to return to hibernation as the Red Moon departs from Earth’s orbit.
