Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Gets Iruma’s Class Fired Up For an Impossible Challenge

Be warned: the following discusses major plot points from Episode 2 of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4, titled “A Challenge to the Thirteen,” which is currently available on Crunchyroll.

So far, Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is a consistently excellent isekai anime, though it doesn’t quite reach the complexity of shows like Tensura or the suspense of Re:Zero. Instead, it’s a heartwarming and enjoyable series, much like My Hero Academia, but set in a fantasy world. It focuses on positive themes like personal growth, the importance of friendship, understanding different viewpoints, and self-belief, and these themes are already making Season 4 a promising start.

Episode 2, “A Challenge to the Thirteen,” feels like a typical setup episode that doesn’t quite deliver on its own. However, if the season picks up the pace starting with Episode 3, this episode could prove to be important. While it’s just okay by itself, episodes like this are necessary to launch a new story arc and raise the stakes. Overall, this episode of Iruma-kun is solid and suggests that at least three students will have significant development in the upcoming Spring 2026 anime season.

Kerori’s Dem-dol Challenge Will Shape the Entire Music Festival

Kerori’s Plan Could Make or Break the Abnormal Class

The strongest part of the new Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun episode, “A Challenge to the Thirteen,” is how well it embodies the spirit of the series. Iruma’s class is used to facing tough situations – they battled giant monsters in Season 2 and competed in a high-pressure cooking competition in Season 3. These moments lean into the action-packed shonen elements of the show, which is a good thing. While the isekai aspect provides the unique setting for Iruma Suzuki’s story, it’s the shonen side that drives the plot and creates the exciting adventures in the Demon World.

Fans of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun already knew from the end of Season 3 that the Music Festival and reaching Dalet were crucial. However, Episode 2 introduces a unique perspective thanks to Kerori. As the idol of the Abnormal Class – a “dem-dol” – she provides the key to helping her classmates achieve something incredible. Simply sticking to traditional festival ideas wouldn’t be enough, and the show doesn’t want that. Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun is known for its creative and unexpected twists, and Kerori delivers on that promise.

The final scene of Episode 2 perfectly sets up a challenging situation. Kerori boldly asks all thirteen of Kalego’s students to perform a coordinated dance – something demons are notoriously bad at, as even a smaller group of six would struggle. This surprising twist cleverly appeals to fans of idol anime and keeps Kerori’s character engaging, while also forcing the Abnormal Class to develop and improve. Character growth is a major strength of this anime, with the Abnormal Class consistently learning and discovering hidden potential, and Kerori’s challenge is a great way to continue that development.

Ronove Romiere is a frustrating character, but he also makes this episode surprisingly entertaining – he’s both the best and worst part of it. While he doesn’t offer anything new, and can be quite irritating, the writers manage to make his scenes work in the end. The episode might test viewers’ patience with his antics, as a little of his personality goes a long way.

Even though Ronove often acts selfishly and superficially, he actually has a valuable message: he wants the students of the Abnormal Class to express their creativity, especially when under pressure like at the Music Festival. This idea later inspires Kerori’s own offer. While Ronove’s personal growth might not be huge in the long run, this small step forward is important for him, and it makes Episode 2 even more interesting and enjoyable.

Purson Soi’s Arc is All About a New Kind of Friendship

Friends Give Each Other Space When They Need It

Kerori and Ronove aren’t the only highlights of the latest episode of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun. While the initial surprise of meeting Purson Soi – the invisible, trumpet-playing boy – was fun, the episode smartly shifts focus to how the other students are reacting to him. Purson Soi provides some good laughs with his constant talking and tendency to reveal secrets, but the most entertaining moments come when he’s the one being teased or exposed.

Episode 2 beautifully illustrates the give-and-take of true friendship, showing how friends support each other by understanding and respecting individual needs. Purson Soi is a bit of a chatterbox, but he’s also shy and needs peace, and his classmates are quickly learning to adjust. They’re holding back on their usual boisterous behavior around him, which is a really thoughtful gesture. Many viewers might attribute this change to Iruma’s influence, suggesting the students are starting to act less like typical demons. This consideration, and the classmates’ willingness to think about how their actions affect Soi, is what makes the episode so strong, prioritizing character interactions and emotional growth over flashy action.
