In Hytale’s Exploration mode, you have the freedom to play however you like, but a popular goal is to find and see every unique character and creature the game has to offer. Each new thing you discover – from birds to mysterious monsters – is saved as a ‘Memory,’ which unlocks helpful bonuses as part of the game’s overall memory system.

Although it’s not required to enjoy Hytale, players will likely want to explore and discover the many creatures in the game. Finding these creatures unlocks rewards, and this guide explains exactly how the Memories system—which tracks your discoveries—works.

What are Memories in Hytale?

Imagine Memories as records of the creatures you encounter. Each time you see a new creature, you’ll collect a Memory of it. You can view all the Memories you’ve collected by opening your inventory and clicking the diamond icon located below the crafting area, near your character. These Memories don’t do anything on their own, but if you want to earn rewards for collecting them, you’ll need to visit the Forgotten Temple.

The Forgotten Temple is a location within Orbis populated by various characters. To reach it, look for temples shaped like crosses on the map – they’re also indicated by a swirling portal icon. Enter one of these temples and head down to the basement, where you’ll find a blue portal that leads directly to the Forgotten Temple.

After going through the portal, you’ll arrive at a big town with people in it. If you continue along the main path, you’ll discover an altar. This altar is like a collection of all the creatures you’ve encountered so far in the game.

When you interact with the altar, you can save any Memories you’ve collected. Saving a Memory moves it from your possession to the altar. As you save more Memories, you’ll hit milestones and earn rewards.

Hytale is currently in early access, so many of the rewards you can earn by reaching milestones are still being developed. You can look forward to more rewards being added as the game receives updates.

Beyond just collecting cool items, players will want to save their Memories at the altar to get Eternal Seeds, which let you replant crops over and over. Also, increasing how far you can travel with Teleporters is a fantastic way to quickly and easily gather resources in Hytale.
