As a seasoned space explorer and avid Starfield player, I must say that the suits in this game have truly taken my breath away (pun intended). The Starborn Suits, especially the Venator, are a testament to the relentless pursuit of power and progression that defines our virtual lives.
As a die-hard Bethesda fan, I’m thrilled about Starfield, given its expansive collection of gear that players can tinker with during their adventure through the Settled Systems. Ranging from swashbuckler attire to capes reminiscent of superheroes, the unyielding loot system in Starfield might initially seem overwhelming. With such a vast assortment at our fingertips, it’s challenging to discern which items are most effective for different parts of the game.
In the game, Starfield, the spacesuits and an assortment of weapons are crucial protective gear. The game’s settings, the Settled Systems, offer a diverse array of hostile combatants and hazardous environments, each necessitating specific strategies for survival. Although many of Starfield’s space suits are exceptional in a single aspect, the top-tier spacesuits in Starfield offer superior protection across all areas. This compilation features six of the finest that players can acquire.
Choosing the optimal space suit in Starfield can be a matter of personal preference. Some players might discover that specific space suits from Starfield outperform those listed here. The ever-changing dynamics of Starfield, similar to many open-world RPGs, makes it challenging to declare any one suit as the ultimate best. This list aims to provide a solid foundation for novice players, inspiring them to delve into the Settled Systems and select the suit that suits their gameplay style the most effectively.
8. Pirate Assault Set
Pirate Assault Set Base Stats:
Set Piece | Physical | Energy | EM | Thermal | Corrosive | Airborne | Radiation | Mass |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Suit | 61 | 45 | 53 | 20 | 30 | 0 | 10 | 7.50 |
Helmet | 30 | 22 | 26 | 0 | 20 | 10 | 0 | 2.10 |
Pack | 28 | 26 | 30 | 0 | 10 | 0 | 20 | 6.30 |
- The Pirate Assault Set (A set includes a spacesuit, helmet, and pack) is a great option for early game protection. With the Crimson Fleet being one of the first enemy groups encountered, it’s availability also makes it good for those looking to quickly upgrade beyond their mining gear. Given Starfield‘s remarkable level of player freedom, it’s conceivable that players will not encounter better options for several hours.
How to Get the Pirate Assault Set:
- It would actually be more surprising if a player didn’t acquire this set in the first several hours of playing through Starfield. This set is found on countless Crimson Fleet combat fighters in nearly every settlement they inhabit. Early on, players will face a group of Crimson Fleet that ends with the choice to attack or persuade Brogan. It’s likely the player will be able to loot at least part of the set at this time, if not the whole thing.
- The Pirate Assault set does not have a dedicated Pack. The Pirate Raiding Pack is a general pack that many different types of Crimson Fleet pirates wear. They will be found on the bodies of many pirates and spacers.

6. Mantis Set
Mantis Set Base Stats:
Set Piece | Physical | Energy | EM | Thermal | Airborne | Corrosive | Radiation | Mass |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Suit | 116 | 84 | 100 | 15 | 30 | 0 | 15 | 16.20 |
Helmet | 64 | 46 | 50 | 20 | 0 | 10 | 25 | 5.40 |
Pack | 47 | 55 | 51 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 25 | 11.00 |
As a gamer, I’ve learned that every time I suit up in my Mantis spacesuit, it’s always legendary, but the special features it comes with are never the same. The basic stats stay consistent, but the type (like Repulsing, Mirrored, Reactive, or Chameleon) and the additional perks (I could get three different ones!) are always a surprise.
- Starfield’s Mantis set is likely the best early-game armor set. Regardless of how players may feel about its appearance, the set has several important advantages over many of the game’s armor sets. Consider the following:
- The Mantis set will always be in the same spot, and it will always be Legendary. This means players will not have to rely on RNG or grinding just to acquire it.
- While it is tied to a quest, the quest can be completed fairly early in the game, giving players one of the easiest paths to getting Legendary gear.
- The suit, for all intents and purposes, comes with a free ship. The Razorleaf will more than likely be the first ship players encounter that utilizes Starfield‘s shielded cargo hold mechanic, allowing for the safe transportation of contraband. This factor alone makes the Mantis set worth it.
- The only real drawback with the Mantis set is its weight. With a combined mass of more than 30, it is an extremely heavy set. However, for many, the perks will more than offset this when weighing the pros and cons.
How to Get the Mantis Set:
- The only way to get the Mantis set is to complete Starfield‘s ‘Mantis’ side-quest. Players will have to find the ‘Secret Outpost!’ slate from a Spacer, which is possible at multiple locations. Any location that Spacers inhabit will be worth exploring, with the slate usually found through looting dead enemies.
- Once the player has the log, simply listen to it to begin the quest.
5. Constellation Mark I Set
Constellation Mark I Set Base Stats:
Set Piece | Physical | Energy | EM | Thermal | Airborne | Corrosive | Radiation | Mass |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Suit | 120 | 136 | 128 | 20 | 0 | 30 | 10 | 7.50 |
Helmet | 78 | 70 | 74 | 20 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 2.30 |
Pack | 78 | 64 | 68 | 20 | 5 | 5 | 0 | 7.10 |
- The Mark I set is essentially the prototype for Constellation’s main armor set that players acquire early in the game. While there are later versions of the Constellation armor, such as the Superior Constellation Spacesuit, the Mark I provide more total protection earlier in the game.
- Aside from the technical reasons, the Mark I is simply far more interesting to players interested in the lore of both Starfield and Constellation. Through Starfield’s research and modding systems, the set’s stats can be improved considerably, giving players the best of all possible worlds.
How to Get the Mark I Set:
- The Mark I set is found in a glass case in the basement of the Lodge, Constellation’s home base in New Atlantis. While it is technically kept behind a master-level lock, players have found a way to bypass the need to upgrade the Security skill and get the suit as soon as the game starts.
4. Bounty Hunter Set
Bounty Hunter Set Base Stats:
Set Piece | Physical | Energy | EM | Thermal | Airborne | Corrosive | Radiation | Mass |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Suit | 128 | 132 | 136 | 15 | 15 | 15 | 15 | 20.90 |
Helmet | 72 | 56 | 64 | 20 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 6.90 |
Refined Pack | 84 | 76 | 80 | 20 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 10.80 |
Since we couldn’t locate the standard Bounty Hunter pack, we opted for the more polished variant instead. Keep in mind that the basic version’s statistics might be somewhat reduced.
- Starfield’s Bounty Hunter Set is an absolute beast, with some of the highest base stats of any set in the game. It remains extremely popular with fans, with the set’s appearance playing a key role in setting it apart from similar mid-to-late-game sets, such as the Mercenary spacesuit.
- Like many other high-end armor sets, the Bounty Hunter set fails in only one area: its extreme weight. With a combined mass that sits way too close to 40, it is a testament to how good the stats are that the set remains as popular as it is.
How to Get the Bounty Hunter Set:
- Like several suits in Starfield, pieces of the Bounty Hunter set can be looted from enemy factions, usually Spacers, as most others have specific sets issued to them. The only other known method of acquiring a piece of the set without cost, is at the lair of the Mantis on Denebola I-b (see the section on the Mantis suit for more details on the location). Roughly halfway through the lair, players will head down a flight of stairs directly into a wall with a window. To the right of that window is a small living space with a cot. Right at the end of the cot is a typical silver case with red stripes that typically hold spacesuits. This suit has reliably been a Calibrated Bounty Hunter suit. Remember, it is just a suit, no helmet or pack.
- Players will not have to look far to purchase the rest of the set. Sieghart’s Outfitters in Neon has been a reliable source for the Bounty Hunter set, though they sometimes only have the helmet and the pack, which is OK for those who found the suit.
3. Va’ruun Assault/Fang’s Set
Va’ruun Assult Set Base Stats:
Set Piece | Physical | Energy | EM | Thermal | Airborne | Corrosive | Radiation | Mass |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Suit | 132 | 128 | 136 | 15 | 15 | 15 | 15 | 13.30 |
Refined Helmet | 80 | 72 | 80 | 0 | 20 | 5 | 5 | 4.40 |
Pack | 84 | 76 | 80 | 20 | 0 | 0 | 10 | 9.70 |
- The Va’ruun Assault set is everything the Bounty Hunter set is, but much lighter. Introduced in the Shattered Space DLC, the Va’Ruun Assault armor has quickly become one of the game’s best base armor sets. It can be greatly improved at a Spacesuit Workbench, and once you start finding advanced versions of the suit, like a Refined or Calibrated set, it may be the only set you need. On top of everything, it’s one of the coolest looking sets in the game.
- Fang’s Set is a special version of Va’ruun Armor that can only be acquired after completing “Legacy of the Fang.” You’ll encounter this quest at the Wayshrine of Strength, which is just south of Dazra. There, you’ll find Maaliya Hajtal trying to protect the grave of her ancestor. Agree to help Maaliya by tracking down the stolen relics from the grave. When you return to her home in Dazra, you must convince her father to fix the armor and give it back to her. Once that is complete, explore the area, and you’ll eventually encounter Maaliya taking up the mantle as the Fang. You have to pickpocket the helmet, pack, and weapon. The only way to get the suit is to ensure she does not survive the encounter. However, if you kill her yourself, Dazra will attack you as soon as you enter town. Make sure to save before attempting this, as aside from console commands, this appears to be the only way to get Fang’s Set.
How to Get the Va’ruun Assault Set:
- Several merchants in Shattered Space sell the set, or you can loot the Va’ruun enemies in Shattered Space. If you explore the POIs outside Dazra, it should not take you too long to find enemies carrying each piece of the set.
2. Starborn Sets (Venator)
All Starborn S Base Stats:
Starborn sets come together in one piece, and cannot be used as individual pieces.
Suit Name | Physical | Energy | EM | Thermal | Airborne | Corrosive | Radiation | Mass |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Astra | 149 | 149 | 149 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
Materia | 159 | 159 | 159 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
Locus | 170 | 170 | 170 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
Tenebris | 181 | 181 | 181 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
Solis | 192 | 192 | 192 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
Gravitas (Emissary) | 203 | 203 | 203 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
Bellum | 214 | 214 | 214 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
Tempus | 224 | 224 | 224 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
Avitus | 235 | 235 | 235 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
Venator (Hunter) | 246 | 246 | 246 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
How to Get the Starborn Suits:
- There are only two ways to get Starborn suits: looting and beating the game. At the end of Starfield, players will begin the New Game Plus cycle. Without spoiling the experience, it’s enough to say that each time the player goes through the cycle, they will get a new Starborn suit. However, starting a new cycle means that players will lose their current Starborn suit. There is no way, other than mods and console commands, to have all the suits in a single inventory. Instead, each new cycle will provide players with a stronger version of the suit, leading to the Hunter’s suit, the Venator, on the tenth cycle.
- The only other way to acquire a Starborn suit is through looting the dead bodies of the Hunter and the Emissary at the end of Starfield‘s penultimate mission, ‘Revelation’. The Emissary provides a far better chance of looting a basic version of his suit, the Gravitas, which players will acquire their sixth time through the Unity. However, the only way to acquire legendary versions of any Starfield suit, is to do it through the New Game Plus cycle.
1. Mystery Gravis Set
Mystery Gravis Set Base Stats:
Set Piece | Physical | Energy | EM | Thermal | Airborne | Corrosive | Radiation | Mass |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Suit | 365 | 365 | 365 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 50 | 17.40 |
- Like the Starborn sets (a group this suit technically belongs to), the Mystery Gravis Suit is worn as a single piece. Looking at the stats, it’s likely obvious why this suit is at number one. Early in the game’s run, it would not have seemed right to put a Creations item at the top of this list. However, now that some time has passed, it seems perfectly legitimate. Simply put, there is no other suit that provides the level of protection that the Mystery Gravis provides.
How to Get the Mystery Gravis Set:
- To get the Mystery Gravis set, you simply need to go to the Creations section from the main menu and either search for the name of the suit, or check the Bethesda Game Studios section. The suit is free, so don’t worry about having to spend any money. Download it, then make sure it is active in your Creations loadout order.
