What To Do With Retired Cats in Mewgenics

Mewgenics is a complex game, and that’s exciting! It features a lot of different elements, so it’s normal to feel a bit lost when you first start playing. You’ll need to learn about many cats – kittens and adults alike – to succeed in this turn-based adventure.

Older cats in your collection are usually the ones you retire, depending on how you play. Once retired, they can’t go on adventures, but they’re still helpful in other ways.

As you might expect in a game like this, things aren’t always straightforward. If you’re wondering what to do with the cats you’ve retired, this guide will show you why they’re still useful and how to put them to work.

What To Do With Retired Cats?

Retired cats aren’t just useful for breeding or sending on expeditions; you’ll need to play the game for a while before they become available. Once you reach Act 2, you’ll start seeing enemies like Guillotina invade your home – we’ll explain those events in more detail later. You can easily identify retired cats because they’re a single color, matching their color class, and they have a small crown icon.

Your retired cats are valuable assets, so handle them with care. Removing the wrong ones could create significant problems. While you can’t completely control the situation, we’ll focus on how they can be used and explain those uses in detail.

Breeding Retired Cats

This is likely the most practical and straightforward approach. If you initially select cats with excellent stats, they’ll generally perform best in retirement.

Once you’ve sent enough kittens to Tink, you’ll be able to retire cats with strong base stats. Placing these retired cats in a room will allow them to breed and potentially produce kittens with even better stats.

To make breeding more likely, choose and arrange furniture in the rooms where you want your cats to have kittens. While it doesn’t need to be perfect, breeding your cats properly will make the game much simpler.

Donating Retired Cats

Retired cats are also useful because you can give them to people around the map, which unlocks upgrades for your house and helps you in future playthroughs. You’ll need to donate retired cats to specific characters to get these benefits.

  • Butch wants cats that have been to specific areas.
  • Frank wants retired cats of any kind.
  • Baby Jack wants cats with injuries.
  • Tracy wants cats at age/level five or higher.
  • Dr. Beanies wants cats with mutations, birth defects, disorders, or parasites.

You don’t need to retire all of your cats, but it’s generally easier to use retired ones for donations. Be sure to keep the cats you plan to breed, but if you really need an upgrade, replacing a few retired cats is simple.

House Boss Defense Battles

You’ll need to reach Act 2 before you can use this feature, but it adds a lot to the game. Once unlocked, retired cats become your home’s defenders, protecting it from unwanted visitors – and they’re the only ones who can!

You’ll receive a week’s warning before an attack, giving you time to prepare defenses – and maybe even raise some cats to help! The day before the attack, you can take your favorite cats on an adventure, but keep in mind they need to survive to be useful when the time comes.

Here’s a list of the following House Bosses you can face off against:

  • Guillotina
  • Guillotina 2
  • Guillotina 3
  • Pyrophina
  • Zaratana
  • Pyrophina vs Zaratana
  • C-800
  • C-1000
  • Hitler III

These battles are challenging, so it’s important to be well-prepared and avoid rushing in. Use the preparation time effectively to collect items that will help you defeat these strong enemies.

Beating these enemies rewards you with items and lets you continue the game, but you don’t actually need to win. If you lose, your retired cats simply pass away.

If you win, your cats will enter a permanent retirement, only able to breed or be donated. Since they’ll likely be quite old at this point, it’s important to keep them well-cared for so they can reach the later stages of the game.
