What To Do With Survivors Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster

As an old-school gamer who’s seen his fair share of zombie apocalypses, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia when I dive back into the chaotic world of Dead Rising. The latest addition to this series, the Deluxe Remaster, has brought back one of my favorite aspects – saving survivors!

In the enhanced version of Dead Rising, titled Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, there are numerous individuals for the protagonist, Frank, to locate within the shopping mall. Regardless of your gaming approach, locating these survivors often becomes a recurring mission that Otis will contact Frank about.

Although survivors aren’t essential for achieving various outcomes within the mall, they serve as valuable allies who can aid in survival, offering extra protection to Frank among other benefits. This article provides a comprehensive guide on how to make the most of saving survivors during your adventure.

Finding & Controlling Survivors

After rescuing a survivor from their predicament, they will tag along with Frank on his expedition through the mall. If you hop into a vehicle, survivors will fill up as many empty seats as there are available. For the most part, survivors tend to stick close to Frank, but certain character traits may make it challenging for them to do so – for instance, The Coward might be hesitant around zombies and occasionally refuse to move through them. As a player, you’ll have two directives at your disposal to assist with guiding any survivors that are tailing you:

  • Call Survivors
  • Direct Survivors

In both instances, you can execute these commands by using the control button. This involves pressing the right joystick on controllers or ‘C’ key for PC users. A simple press of the call button will make Frank instruct all survivors to advance towards him, prioritizing a path through any zombies that may be in their way. Frequently, this command will serve as your primary one due to its focus on leading survivors to you. However, if you hold down the call button while aiming, you’ll guide the survivors to the location you were aiming at and have them wait there instead.

Survivors will stay at that spot until commanded to move.

If you decide to move on to another part of the map via a door, ensure that all survivors are nearby, as those who remain in the previous area might get left behind. Since they’re already part of your group, you can easily find them on the map once more. Survivors will continue to stay with you until either they die or you accidentally or intentionally attack them repeatedly.

Equipping, Healing, & Affinity

When you confront a survivor while holding a weapon, you can engage with them, causing them to relinquish their current weapon and adopt the one you’re carrying instead. If you provide them with food, they’ll retain their weapon, accept the food, and instantly consume it for healing purposes. Weapons bestowed upon survivors will have an unlimited supply of durability or ammunition.

Survivors tend to prefer specific tools for self-defense or sustenance, which can be provided to enhance their bond with you. A stronger bond between you and the survivor will make them more efficient at fending off zombies and keeping pace with Frank. However, it’s important to note that a strong bond doesn’t significantly improve their combat effectiveness in general, but rather increases their chances of survival. Ultimately, your primary objective should be ensuring their safety, regardless of the tools they possess.

How To Save Survivors

The primary objective when survivors accompany you should be leading them to the Safety Room, where they express gratitude towards Frank upon arrival. By accompanying survivors into the Safety Room, a short scene unfolds where they thank Frank and you’ll receive a generous amount of PP for leveling up. Survivors will remain in the Safety Room until the end of the game, effectively ensuring their safety at that point.
