What to Expect From Astro Bot’s Free DLC

What to Expect From Astro Bot's Free DLC

As a long-time PlayStation enthusiast who’s been through the highs and lows of their console library, I must say that Astro Bot has truly stolen my heart. After the less-than-stellar reception of Concord, Astro Bot came like a breath of fresh air, proving that PlayStation still has what it takes to deliver a top-notch gaming experience.

Astro Bot, simply put, was a perfect fit for PlayStation. Following the rocky debut of Concord, PlayStation desperately needed a game like Astro Bot to garner critical praise and fly off shelves, and it appears that it has surpassed even these high standards. One of Astro Bot’s key strengths lies in its complete, well-rounded nature. However, the developers at Team Asobi have announced that additional content will be made available free of charge, and fans have just been treated to their first sneak peek.

During Sony’s latest State of Play presentation, it was revealed that the free DLC for the game Astro Bot will become available this Fall, although the specific release date remains undecided at the moment. Fortunately, Team Asobi has been more open about what the DLC will contain, and a recent trailer provides a glimpse into most of the exciting elements that fans can anticipate.

Astro Bot’s Upcoming Free DLC Explained

Five New Online Speedrun Levels

In simple terms, the core highlights of Astro Bot’s upcoming free content will offer players an opportunity to explore five distinctly unique stages. Unlike those in the main Astro Bot game, these new stages are designed specifically for speedrunning, pushing players to race towards the finish line with maximum speed.

From the trailer, it appears that a player’s speed is crucial in determining whether they can save the two Bots within each level. Along the way, you’ll have two colorful companions – a blue and a red bird. If these birds manage to reach the end of the stage ahead of you, they will trigger a firework attached to one of the Bots, sending that character soaring into outer space. This action prevents you from saving them. To successfully rescue both Bots, your goal should be to complete the level before the two birds can finish it first.

It appears that the DLC trailer for Astro Bot seems to hint at four out of the five new speedrun levels. Here’s what we might encounter:

10 New Bots to Rescue

In the upcoming DLC for “Astro Bot”, there will be ten new characters to rescue, divided into two per speedrun stage. Two of these characters have been revealed: Eve from “Stellar Blade” and a veteran from “Helldivers 2”. The items that can be unlocked with these characters also seem to be confirmed. For instance, Eve is expected to come with a vending machine inspired by the collectible cans in “Stellar Blade”, which expand the player’s inventory. Similarly, the Helldiver will bring a flag of Super Earth, reminiscent of the box art for “Helldivers 2”.

It remains uncertain who the other eight unveiled Bots are, as their identities haven’t been disclosed yet. However, there’s a strong possibility that these Bots might appear as guest characters. Although some fans continue to speculate about the inclusion of Final Fantasy characters in Astro Bot, it seems more plausible that the game’s credits have already revealed who will be joining the game.

In the closing credits of the game Astro Bot, it’s hinted that future downloadable content (DLC) might include references to Ubisoft’s titles such as Assassin’s Creed, Beyond Good and Evil, Rayman, Rise of the Ronin, Worms, and even Croc, the mascot platformer. This possibility becomes more plausible considering that Stellar Blade was acknowledged in Astro Bot’s credits and Eve is featured in the upcoming DLC.
