What to Expect From Marvel’s Wolverine in 2026

Originally announced way back in September 2021, Marvel’s Wolverine is now scheduled to release next Fall. The announcement generated a lot of excitement, especially when it was revealed the game’s story would be crafted by the team behind the critically acclaimed Spec Ops: The Line, and that it would have a mature tone. Many fans hoped the game would come out quickly, as Insomniac Games had been consistently releasing popular titles. However, a significant leak exposed large portions of Marvel’s Wolverine, along with Insomniac’s future plans and internal information.

It’s understandable that Insomniac Games needed time to ensure their employees were safe and reorganize their plans after confidential information leaked, including the cancellation of a multiplayer Marvel’s Spider-Man game. The leak also likely meant some work on Marvel’s Wolverine had to be revisited. Now that things are stabilizing, Marvel’s Wolverine is progressing towards completion, and here’s a preview of what to expect from the game, slated for release in 2026.

Major spoilers ahead based on leaked Marvel’s Wolverine info.

The Lead-Up to Marvel’s Wolverine Will Likely Be Packed With Reveals

Okay, so Fall isn’t even here yet, which means Insomniac has a good eight months to really get everyone hyped for their next superhero game. I’m pretty sure we’re going to get a dedicated State of Play closer to release, and honestly, I’m hoping they really show off the combat – it sounds like it’s going to be brutal! They’ll probably keep some costumes secret, but I’m betting we’ll see a few alternate looks for Wolverine, like the Deadpool & Wolverine suit, that brown suit Byrne designed (which looks like it already leaked!), and maybe an X-Force variant. I’m also expecting they’ll reveal more characters – Callisto, Sabretooth, and Lady Deathstrike seem like good bets. And come on, a collector’s edition with a Logan statue? That’s practically guaranteed. I’m guessing the design will be similar to the Spider-Man statue from the first game, maybe with little references to all the villains we’ll be fighting.

Players who pre-order the game can likely expect some bonus costumes, following the style of the Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Leaks suggest costumes inspired by X-Men 97 and Astonishing X-Men are possibilities, and would be great additions.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Could Be the Model for Wolverine’s Gameplay Demo

Considering how well Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sold, it would be smart for Insomniac Games to market their upcoming Wolverine game in a similar way. This likely means we’ll see an extended gameplay reveal – probably during a PlayStation event like State of Play or a larger showcase. The Spider-Man 2 demo showed off gameplay for both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, including Peter’s new powers and a thrilling chase scene with the Lizard. It stopped just before the final boss fight, though, which might be something to expect with a Wolverine demo as well.

A ten-minute gameplay demo of Marvel’s Wolverine could demonstrate its intense, up-close combat with standard enemies, showing off Logan’s varied fighting abilities. This would also give players a better understanding of the story. While details have leaked suggesting Logan will try to prevent Mister Sinister from capturing powerful Omega-level Mutants, Insomniac doesn’t need to reveal the entire plot. Just giving fans a stronger sense of the narrative and showcasing the gameplay would be effective. The demo could end with an exciting sequence, such as the leaked boat chase or a new scene of Logan battling a boss like Omega Red.

Okay, so the recent Insomniac leak definitely revealed some big stuff about Marvel’s Wolverine, like the fact that we’ll get to play as Jean Grey and that Mister Sinister – Troy Baker is playing him! – is the main bad guy. But honestly, that doesn’t mean Insomniac has to show everything off right now. There are still tons of players who haven’t seen the leaks, and it would be awesome for them to be genuinely surprised by a new playable character or the true villain. A lot of us were expecting Sabretooth to be the big threat, so Sinister being the main antagonist would be a great reveal. While I’m happy to see things like alternate costumes, side characters, and more combat footage, I really think they could still keep Jean and Sinister as surprises for when the game actually comes out.

The complete look of Doc Ock wasn’t revealed until after Marvel’s Spider-Man came out, and Mister Sinister might get the same treatment – meaning we might not see his full design until the game is released.

Predicting The Official Release Date of Marvel’s Wolverine

Marvel’s Wolverine is planned to come out sometime between September and November, but it’s hard to say exactly when based on when Insomniac Games has released other titles.

Game Release Date
Sunset Overdrive October 28, 2014
Ratchet and Clank (remake) April 12, 2016
Marvel’s Spider-Man September 7, 2018
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales November 12, 2020
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart June 11, 2021
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 October 20, 2023

Predicting a release date for Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine is tricky, especially since the studio hasn’t announced one. However, the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 on November 19, 2026, is a major factor. GTA 6 is already causing concern among developers and influencing release schedules, and Insomniac will likely want to avoid competing with it. Given that Insomniac typically releases its games on Fridays, and aiming for a September or early October launch would give Wolverine time to shine, September 18, 2026, seems like a reasonable estimate.

Could Marvel’s Wolverine Be Delayed?

While there’s always a chance of delays, it’s likely Marvel’s Wolverine will still come out as planned. Insomniac Games originally aimed for a Fall 2026 release, and recently reaffirmed those plans. The studio rarely postpones its games, and considering how long Marvel’s Wolverine has been in development, it’s reasonable to expect it will stay on track. As of now, everything suggests the game will launch next year as intended.

The Launch of Marvel’s Wolverine

When Marvel’s Wolverine releases, fans can expect certain content, such as:

  • Brutal, bloody melee combat wear the sharpness of Logan’s claws are on full display. Set piece moments will also be prevalent to keep a cinematic feel.
  • Boss fights against some of Wolverine’s deadliest foes, like Omega Red.
  • Various costumes for Wolverine, with comic book and movie looks sure to be present alongside original designs.
  • A bold new take on Wolverine, with Liam Mcyintyre playing the “Best He is as What he Does.” Memorable characters like Mystique will make up the supporting cast.
  • A variety of locations, from Japan and the Alaskan Wilderness to the fictional city of Madripoor.

Insomniac Games has a strong history of making critically acclaimed games, most recently with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which received a score of 90 on Metacritic. Because of this, it’s reasonable to expect Marvel’s Wolverine to also receive very positive reviews, likely between the mid-80s and low 90s on most review sites. Insomniac is taking the time to make sure the game is polished, which supports this expectation. A post-credits scene in Wolverine could hint at the studio’s future plans for an X-Men game, rumored to be in development for around 2030. They might even include two scenes – one to tease Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, which will probably come out before the X-Men game.
