As a lifelong gamer who’s been around the block more times than I care to remember, let me tell you, the addition of Terry Bogard to Street Fighter 6 is a move that has me all fired up! I’ve been a fan of his antics in Fatal Fury and King of Fighters since the days of my old CRT TV and dial-up internet.
Fans of Street Fighter 6 had a delightful surprise on the first day of Gamescom 2024, as Capcom unveiled a gameplay trailer for their latest character: Terry Bogard. While many fans weren’t taken aback by his arrival, given that he and fellow SNK character Mai were announced in June during Summer Game Fest, the new Gamescom trailer has sparked even greater excitement due to its demonstration of moves that appear to defy the usual rules of Street Fighter 6 (SF6).
Terry Bogard is the representative figurehead of SNK’s highly acclaimed fighting game series, specifically _Fatal Fury_ and _King of Fighters_. He holds the distinction of being the initial cross-over character not originating from Capcom to feature in a primary _Street Fighter_ title. For quite some time, Capcom has allowed their characters to be used in other fighting games, so it was only a matter of inevitability that they would eventually incorporate a few guest characters into _Street Fighter 6_.
Terry Bogard Keeps his Iconic Moves and Combos in Street Fighter 6
The main draw of guest characters is that they add some more flavor to a fighting game by bringing their signature abilities into it. Like Akuma in Tekken, who brought his 2D fighter shenanigans into the 3D space, Terry Bogard brings his iconic moves and some quirks from his SNK games to Street Fighter 6.
Terry Bogard’s Special Moves in Street Fighter 6
- Power Wave: This is Terry’s main projectile, and it can be activated by doing the usual quarter-circle forward motion plus a punch. It creates a ripple that travels on the ground. The light version travels the fastest, while the medium version is the most damaging. Throwing out a heavy Power Wave will create a round projectile that offers a frame advantage on block, which is great for advancing into enemies. The overdrive version hits multiple times, making it excellent for juggle combos.
- Burn Knuckle: Terry’s burn knuckle is a powerful punch that launches him toward the enemy. Players can execute this using quarter circle back plus heavy punch. It’s a great way to get into the opponent’s face while also dealing big damage if it hits. Its light version does a one-two combo, while the medium variation can catch crouch blockers off guard with an overhead hit.
- Crack Shoot: Terry also does his iconic front flip kick, Crack Shoot in the trailer. This move is quite versatile, as players can use it to get around fireballs or pick enemies out of the air.
- Rising Tackle: This launches Terry into a vertical spinning kick, making it a great anti-air move. Players should have an easy time executing this, as it uses the “Dragon Punch” motion input, which is forward, down, down-forward.
- Power Charge: This move simply causes Terry to hit enemies with his shoulder. While it lacks flair, it seems to be quite useful. Fighting game content creators like Rooflemonger and Brian_F pointed out that he can seemingly cancel his Power Charge into Power Wave. A special move canceling into another is par for the course in King of Fighters, but it’s an uncommon sight in Street Fighter.
- Passing Sway: This is a target combo that lets him jump into a second lane to dodge an attack and then hit the opponent with either a jumping knee or jumping lariat. It’s literally a game-changing mechanic borrowed from the Fatal Fury series.
Terry Bogard’s Super Moves in Street Fighter 6
- Level 1 – Buster Wolf: This shows Terry cocking and firing an energy blast from his arm. The trailer sees him use this as a combo ender after bouncing poor Luke from the ground with his overdrive Crack Shoot.
- Level 2 – Power Geyser: His level 2 is like a souped-up version of his Power Wave. If this volcanic explosion hits the enemy, the player can spend three drive gauge bars to hit a follow-up geyser. If that’s not enough to K.O., they can launch a third one by consuming one super art gauge.
- Level 3 – Rising Fang: Finally, Terry’s level three super is a showcase of his signature moves into one cool cinematic that ends with him torching his opponent with a powerful Buster Wolf blast.
