- Heihachi’s legacy lives on through successors like Reina, who adopt his playstyle in Tekken 8 for a fresh twist.
As a longtime Tekken enthusiast who’s witnessed the Mishima family’s dynasty unfold over the years, I can’t help but feel exhilarated at the prospect of Heihachi Mishima gracing our screens once more in Tekken 8. His return is not only a testament to his indomitable spirit but also a nod to the rich history that this series has cultivated over the years.
In the upcoming season finale of Tekken 8’s DLC, we’ll see the powerful comeback of Heihachi Mishima, a character who has often filled the role of the primary antagonist throughout the series. The storyline of Tekken 8 has been largely focused on the impact left by Heihachi, paving the way for his return in the forthcoming DLC.
In Tekken 7, the longstanding conflict between Heihachi and his son Kazuya Mishima reached its peak. Kazuya emerged victorious in a dramatic showdown with his father, then proceeded to hurl Heihachi into an active volcano for good measure. It might seem far-fetched that Heihachi could recover from such an ordeal, but considering Tekken’s history, his resurrection is not entirely out of the question.
Heihachi Mishima Will Revive a Popular Playstyle in Tekken 8
Heihachi’s Tekken 8 Reveal Provides More Questions Than Answers
In the upcoming game Tekken 8, the return of Heihachi Mishima introduces a complexity that’s hard to unravel. Interestingly, this comeback appears to challenge the central themes presented in both Tekken 7 and Tekken 8. Although his role within the story remains undisclosed, it’s evident that the evolution of his fighting style is almost transparent.
Just like Street Fighter introduced the Shoto character archetype with Ken and Ryu, Tekken pioneered the Mishima archetype through characters such as Heihachi and Kazuya. This archetype is characterized by strong counterattacks after missed attacks (whiff punishes) and powerful combination moves (explosive combo strings). Heihachi played a significant role in shaping some of Tekken 8’s most renowned characters, but now the foundation for this original design is nearly complete.
Predicting Heihachi Mishima’s Gameplay in Tekken 8
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but acknowledge the legendary status of Heihachi Mishima in the realm of fighting games. His unique combat style has been emulated and evolved by numerous members of the Mishima clan, resulting in a distinctive set of characteristics and signature moves that are now synonymous with his name. The depth of Heihachi’s history has forged an incredibly dedicated fanbase, making it highly improbable for developers to significantly alter his move-set.
Among long-time Tekken enthusiasts, Heihachi is notoriously known for his lethal combo moves that can swiftly deplete an opponent’s health from full to zero in mere seconds. A minor error by the competitor could lead to an instant defeat in the game. The move to focus on is Electric Wind God Fist, which serves as Heihachi’s initial step for executing his most destructive combo sequences.
Despite players generally preferring other Mishimas over Heihachi, his design remains just as iconic. The game developers might strive to prevent DLC characters from being surpassed by their peers, yet they also wish to respect longtime fans’ attachment. Therefore, there could be a solution in Tekken 8 that allows them to enjoy both aspects.
Heihachi Mishima Already Has Successors in Tekken 8
One intriguing facet of Heihachi’s comeback lies in the influence he passed down to other characters. Notably, Reina is one of the most captivating newcomers in Tekken 8, as her narrative centers around assuming her father’s role. In many ways, she appears to ignite a similar conflict with Kazuya and Jin.
Players prefer their characters to remain in the game, even if a character dies, and developers seem to understand this by making Reina play much like her father, Heihachi. Reina shares many traits with her old man, and she isn’t an exception. It appears that Tekken‘s Kuma, the bear fighter, is Heihachi’s favorite child in some way, as he inherited some of Heihachi’s moves in Tekken 8. These modifications may not have been made randomly and could possibly shed light on Heihachi’s gameplay style.
As a gamer, I’ve taken on the Mishima style that Heihachi originally created, and Kuma seems to be right on my heels. While we’re sticking close to the roots, Reina and I have our own unique moves to offer. Sharing these with Heihachi could breathe new life into an old favorite character. It might be a tough pill for Heihachi to swallow, giving up some of his signature gameplay elements, but learning fresh tricks could be the key to a perfect blend of the old and the new.
